So you’ve got a theoretical number of source boxes (20) each of which has its video and audio modulated and sent digital via UHF to any number of televisions that either have built in digital tuners, or an external digital tuner. So on any individual, or number of TV’s you could just go to any channel from 1 – 20 to view that particular digital content.

So lets look at this from a mechanical perspective, if you were to use HDMI alone that would be 20 physical inputs on your box. If you were to use DVI with optical that would be 40 physical input points. If you were to use component video with analog audio inputs that would be 100 physical input points.

Then there is the HDCP licensing issue, and the FCC issue because all you would need is an amplifier and you would have an un-licensed 20 channel digital TV station. Which is an interesting aspect to this since it is possible to build a box that would send all of your content wirelessly to all of your TVS.

A neat off shoot off all of this would be that if you did decide to go the component video route with analog audio, then it would be possible to send anything audio video digitized over coax, such as the content from DVD’s VCR’s, basic low resolution Sat or cable boxes, music from CD players and iPod type devices, cameras, paging, anything.

Bottom line, I think unless you get into bed with some big company like Samsung your first run will probably wholesale for something greater than $2500.00 bucks each. Sounds like a $4995.00 retail item to me, when considering what just a basic analog 4 channel modulator costs these days.
