I am adding a small stepladder to my collection. I need something to take out on site surveys. I tried a " Gorilla " ladder it was too big and heavy. I am afraid a 4' ladder will be too small. Any ideas? I would like brands and where I can find them. Thanks

I too find the Gorilla ladders too heavy. I used a Little Giant for years, long before they populated the infomertial scene, and liked it a lot. It fit will in the back of my hatchback Acura, and would extend out to 16' if I needed it.

little giant or the gorrilla version of it
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

Has anybody tried one of these?

I saw a guy use it on House Detective. Looked sturdy enough.
It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever.

That looks pretty cool.
I just throw a 4' in the car. 4' gets me most places and if that's not enough the customer often has a cheapy 6' around. I usually just take the van to be safe but when the gas went ^^^^^^ I started using the car more.

I have wondered about those as well, mainly for around the house. But I do like how the ladder is bowing on the picture on the site.!!!

Live wire, I guess I'm not the only one that dresses up before pulling wires in the attic. I like the bug destroyer too.

I've looked at the all the ladders available out there and concluded that having several conventional ladders on the van is the best way to get the job done right. Most noteably, I like to have one ladder where I'm cutting holes for speakers and one to just sit under the attic entrance.

I've found moving the same ladder around and changing it's config takes too much time and wairs me out.

If I hadn't designed my own JetRack before it was available I would own one or several of them. The best thing I did to the cargo area of my van was to hang the 6' ladder.
Manuals?! We don't need no stinking manuals! a.. er..

Hatchback Acura??
Owen, are you fast and furious?? :0

I am obviously joking... the infamous "lost wheel" incident a few weeks back was on my beat to hell VW Jetta A2 that serves as my thrifty road warrior vehicle. (250K+ and it won't die)

I used to drive the hell out of my 88 Civic HB.
I used to cart around step ladders, stacks of Marantz and Paradigm (back then), all the while pulling nearly 40mpg no matter how hard I drove it. (and I drove it HARD)

Maybe someday I will have a HB Acura...

Oh, back on topic...
I use an array of stepladders from Louisville and Werner... I think we may have a few Keller ladders from before they were absorbed into the Werner ladder group.

We also own a few of the old Krause folding ladders... their patents are now bing used by some infomercial and Wal-Market crappy ladders that aren't even as good as the original Krauses... and THOSE were death traps.

My advice is to AVOID the folding ladders.
That telescoping contraption doesn't exactly fill me with confidence either...

The only convertible ladder I would truct would be the Little Giant.
I have used the Werner and Cosco reproductions that some clients had at a big renovation job, they fall quite a bit short of the originals.

I was. Now I drive a Honda Pilot, and reserve the fast & furious for the 97 Wide Glide. :-)

We have a 3', a 5', an 8', and a 20' in all three trucks, but the Sprinter's 8' and 20' are one and the same... Little Giant. I've been very happy with the Little Giant, and now know that it is water-proof. Don't ask me how...

Well I bought the 13' gorrilla ladder it is a little heavy for it's size but when I said it was too heavy I was referring to the 17' version my wife bought for her store. I did not know th 13' existed. It is very manageable. Much easier than my 10' fiberglass Louisville. This will be my 6th ladder.

If nothing else I will get 100 bucks worth of entertainment playing with all the knobs and levers. Thanks for all the feedback.

It also depends on how tall you are. I'm 6'1" and use a 4' step ladder quite a bit. Stating the obvious a 5.7" tall person would favour a 6' ladder.

My typical vehicle inventory is a 4', 6' and 8' for step ladders. I've also used the Little Giant Model 21 which is a 21' step ladder. Not cheap or light, but in some installations the only way to go.

I would seriously look at any of the Little Giant ladders for my next step ladder purchase because of their versitility. The model 22 is a 5'- 9' step ladder as well as a 11'-19' extension ladder. Not cheap , but add up the three ladders that I have and comes out to be the very similar in cost and I haven't even priced in the extension ladder part.

Cheers

I bought a Littel Giant 6 years ago. At teh time I wondered if I was making a wise purchase. After 5 years I have no doubts. I highly recommend these ladders. Steady as a rock. You can dance on these damn things. I use the piss out of my ladder. I have a 22" extension/10' or 11' "A" frame.

That being said, I only carry it around when I know I will need it. My 4' Werner is always in my car. I can fit the Littel Giant in my car, but I usually take my truck when the LG is invloved.

Regardless, I would not do w/o my LG. Period!!!
