I have been wondering about this for a while now. PVID is great if you're doing Crestron.

We use the Audio Control Cat5 distributed audio and video pieces a lot. We mate them to a KDS matrix switch or signal amplifier and it works fine.

But what I have been wondering for a while is why doesn't someone like KDS, Audio Control, or some other distributed part maker make a matrix switch that outputs over cat5 and needs a converter at each TV location? For all I know, someone like Autopatch or Knox or Extron make it and I just haven't been able to find it.

But it seems like it would be such a useful device - I know I would use a lot of them.

B&K is coming out withone Q1 06

I beleive 8 YPbPR in; 8 YPbPR buferred outs; and 8 Cat5 outs - all matrix switched. So you can either use it as a Component video matrix switcher and only use component video cable to each location or use Cat 5 to each location and use a balun at the TV end. $3k list. Perfect match to their CT systems

Extron, Autopatch and soon KNOX will have Cat-5 Matrix's

What we usually do if we're distributing multiple formats is scale the lower quality feeds prior to distribution. SO if theres a VCR in the system, we'll throw a Scaler like a AVT-3801 from AVToolbox on it and upconvert it to the same as the rest of the sources.

Endeleo has a product that does exactly this, including upconversion of composite and S-Video be be distributed as component over CAT-5.

But it's pricy...

Close on the B&K piece. It has the same inputs and outputs as the current CT series (designed to be an extension to this system). 9 inputs (with loop-through), 6 outputs (zones). Obviously it can be cascaded. Cat5 receiver on the TV end is phantom powered through the Cat5. Systems allows for composite, S-video, and component switching.
