Installed a 70: DILA for a customer in June... He called me yesterday and told me that the set is going black already...

Would that mean that the lamp is already burning out, or is there another problem to look for?
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

Lamp ballast is what Sony had a problem with LCDs. What I can tell you for sure is that this is not normal so be suspicious that something else is wrong even if the bulb is dead.

If you call the JVC 800 number and explain what's happening with the set, JVC will send out a replacement bulb free of charge. A simple procedure to install it.

After you install the replacement bulb and find out that it's the bulb ballast that is really the problem, you'll need to contact JVC once again and get the number for a local service center.

The local service center will send someone out to check the set out. The service center people will then order a replacement bulb ballast and schedule a return visit to install said ballast.

PIA, but it is free.

And the client ends up getting a free bulb out of the deal. So, while it's a PIA, it's nice for the client to get something for their trouble......

Been there, done that.

As a JVC Pro dealer I have had to replace the lamps in both of DILA projectors prior to expected lamp life. One was the activator for the lamp and the other seems to be fine after replacement. I still have my doubts about the whole thing personally and really got no answer explaining why it happens.
