I have just purchased a new ultra compact laptop which is great but doesn't have a serial connection (none of the ultra compacts seem to)

I am having trouble connecting with the Marantz remotes - RC5200 / RC9200.

The laptop does have a USB socket and I have tried using a USB to Serial convertor made by a company called Belkin but with no luck (latest drivers with windows XP) the port is recognised but the remote isn't recognised.

Anyone know how to solve this problem, why don't the remote manufacturers use USB on their latest products?

I am using the Keyspan HIgh Speed USB to Serial Adapter. Make sure it is assigned to Com 1. Works flawlessly

Don't feel bad I have a Toshiba Sat. 2805 laptop and it also does not have a serial. But even worse, it does have access to Comm1 or Comm2 so ProntoEdit can't work on it because it only looks at comm1 or 2.

Toshiba claims "We can not offer support on this issue" when asked how to open these comm ports.

So I have to use my POS compaq for programming on-site.
