Having just installed 2 Aquos 27" LCD's that need to be operated by crestron. We have discovered that there is no "power on" RS232 protocol for the unit. We checked with Sharp and they confirmed that one does not exist although there is a "power off" command, ridiculous. If i convert the control to IR i only get toggling power.
As i see it, i have 2 options.
1. toggle "power" via IR to turn it on and use RS232 to turn it off.
2. use a relay on the pro2 with a power switching device to cut off and re-instate power to the unit itself.

I'm not particularly keen on either of these options and i'm hoping someone might have found a solution.

Thanks
Simon.

It isn't in the published protocol but if you use 1 as the parameter for the POWR command instead of 0, it is an on command(ie: POWR1___< cr >). This however was for a 26" US model and not a 27" Australian model, if the protocols are different. I thought it was odd that they didn't put it in the book though.

You have to first turn OFF the ENgergy Saver mode with an RS-232 Command.... THen you can use POWR 1 To turn on the set. I dont remeber what that command is off hand, but I will look it up on my laptop later and post it.

Just to clarify... As I understand it, to qualify for Energy Star compliance, they have to turn off the 232 port when the unit is off, thereby letting the power on command fall on "deaf ears". As Impaqt said, there is a one time command to turn off the energy star 'feature', thereby allowing the "deaf ears" to hear once more...

Good luck

Actually all of the new models have the energy saver mode selection in the setup menu.

I could really use that code if you have it Impaqt.

Thanks in advance.

If it is a new set you should just have to go into the setup menu and go to the energy saver options and select quick turn on. What happens is that for the set to qualify for the energy saver rating in the power saver mode it turns off everything so that even the rs232 port is off, by selecting quick power up it only turns off the display but leaves the processor active which will allow you to turn on the tv via rs232.

Bump.

Anyone know if this works? I'm about to put 5 of these on a wall (4 32", and a 45") and I want to control them via RS-232. Really will suck if I don't have discrete on and off. Plan on using RTI T3 with an RP6.

Any other helpful nuggets of info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I can verfiy that the power commands work after turning the Energy Star mode off. I haven't tried it on any of the current models, but it worked fine on the 37 and 45 that we installed in July.

I can't remember completely, but I believe there are several commands that one might normally want to have that did not exist in the RS-232 command set. Things such as individual number keys and the like. Make sure that all the functionality you need exists in the RS-232 before you commit to using that method. IR seems to work just fine on these sets.

I just installed a 32" and sharp, again, outrightly told me that there is no power on command on the new models, even over 232. I asked what the best way is to make it known to sharp that this is unnaceptable. He logged a complaint flag for the call, and I described the lack of power codes.
I would encourage all sharp dealers and distributors to take 3 minutes to call sharp and do the same, but I really don't know how effective this would be, and I know how busy everyone is....

How many times should we give out the answer before we ban the terms Sharp and RS232 power from this site?
