Hi.

Looking for the most affordable, and easy to use room optimization software that generates decent results for home theaters.

Something that suggests optimal speaker locations AND acoustic treatments when needed (due to room shape and/or speaker location constraints) would be awesome.

What are you guys using these days? I've finally convinced my favourite builder/architect team to give me more control of room shape and room architecture... and although I've been getting by on good products and general acoustic treatments (ie softening up the front and sides), I want to take a step closer to the unattainable goal of perfection....

I do alot of systems in the $20-40K range (Canadian $$, equipment only) ... but we are starting to see more and more larger projects.

Wish I could have made CEDIA this year... as I'm sure I'd get the answer there....
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...

RPG has two programs that combined will give you the tools that you need: Room Optimizer and Room Sizer. You can go to www.rpginc.com and check them out. Also there is CARA from Rhintek which is a more complex program to use. Check that one at www.rhintek.com.

We use CARA. Total pain to learn to use but once you have it down, its pretty powerful.

I bought it a couple of month ago and I haven't had the chance to play with it.

I also have a copy of CARA that I purchased back when the weather was cold...

I haven't used it much, partially because it requires quite a bit of input to get good results. Also, being the brainchild of a group of French loudspeaker engineers, it isn't the most intuitive software to use...

Are you sure they are French and not German?

There is also the One on One software that when you enter the room parameters it gives you back the Null points in the room, Works out well when you need to make sure the money seat is NOT in a null to collect the final payment. We have had a client ask if we could put a small tape spot on the floor in a null to show his buddies the difference in the room acoustics and why he used us instead of the Slammers in town

I have Several Versions if anyone wants me to email one to them to play with.

Best way to use it is in your own theater mark out a few spots on the floor and then go from spot to spot and see that there is no bass in these spots or minimal in the spot. These nulls are there and cant be corrected move a small amount but no EQ will ever fix it

****Edit*****

Here is a link to the website to download it for free

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

Yes, it looks like ELAC is German... I guess I was thinking of JM Labs/Focal or Cabasse, who are based in France.

Either way, it's not exactly user-friendly...
