I have a customer that wants to put a dedicated home theater on the third floor rec room. He has six windows that are 28" wide. What are you guys thoughts about motorized blinds, shades, or drapes. There is attic access above the entire room, and there are fire blocks about every four feet in the rock lathe walls. I am sure we can get the wires through to where they need to go, but I have no clue as to what system to use, how to install it, and how to wire its and program it. I would prefer to control via RS232. I was looking at the lutron silvio's and the solar shading systems stuff, but I would like your feedback. Thanks in advance.

Lutron QED is outstanding. Since it's low voltage, it a hundred times easier to retro if you are in an area that requires conduit. Go with true blackout shades (with side channels) of course if it's for a theater.

If you are forced into a high voltage solution you have 5 options

1. Use Somfy interface. These take low votage closures ( momentary or maintained depending on the unit. I hate them but sometimes suffering is inevitable.

2. Build your own relay box. Just make sure to physically interlock the relays

3. If you have a Crestron system specified ( and I know you do sub out your Crestron installs but have no idea what control system is specified in this case ) you could use the new C2N-SDC. Small and easily concealed. These devices provide half of a 1MC4 in a 1900 box. You will need Cresnet.

4. Install a back box and use Crestron C2N-1MC4. A little more costly than the SDC but neater and more elegant.

5. Third party serial or Ethernet relays. Lots of companies.

6. Follow QQQ's advice.

We are using a xantech control system operated by a HTM MX3000. I will look at the Lutron.
