I suspect many of you might have some advice for me on this. I have been living with it for quite awile.

I have an HD Tivo, for DirecTV. I guess, caused by the Tivo's lack of native resolution, I cannot watch OTA channels without them being displayed with bars, left and right, when the content is not HD. When HD content is broadcast, it is wonderful.

However, when the content is not HD, I like the quality much better using the OTA versus the DirecTV locals. But, due to the bars and a little previous burn-in, I watch the locals on DirecTV, which are full screen.

To add to this problem, my Mits 65" WS-65909 will not allow any screen formatting options, in the 1080i mode. I think it is showing its age in this area. I can change the Tivo to 480i or 480p and can then do some screen formatting on the Tv but the offerings are not very good and non are really worth changing to.

One option may be to eventually replace the Mit TV. The other option might be to add a better HD tuner. Other than that, is a scaler something that might fix the issue and it is price effective?

Many thx for your input - Dave

Your question is a little confusing. Are you using DVI or HDMI to connect to the TV? If so an inexpensive scaler would just bypass this info straight through, i.e. no scaling. If you input to the scaler using component then it should be able to scale to the res of the TV. Focus and DVDO make some relatively cheap scalers $500-$1500 that may do the trick for you.

However you should be able to have two settings for your existing setup, one for HD/widescreen and one for 4:3, and switch between the two with the press of a learning remote button, (a small macro would allow you to make the necessary settings on the SatRX and TV together if necessary.)
