We have a great client that we are working with on several projects, in several phases.

Some retrofit work and a good bit of work in the two areas of new construction in the home, from a home theater to other whole-house (at least part of the house) solutions

The first priority is a very small part of the big picture; a wireless camera/doorbell/intercom/phone solution in the older part of the home (retrofit).

We have already identified the camera piece, using a Panasonic but we are seeking a wireless solution for the doorbell/intercom and in a perfect world the doorbell would ring the phones for a two-way conversation.

We have several areas of the home that are part of a new addition however the structured wiring panel is in a separate building and about 300 feet from the front door so running to there could be problematic at this phase.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks!

No answer, but another question:

My front door has an old Nutone intercom unit mounted in the brick. The Nutone system is long gone, but I'd like to replace the door unit with a camera, 2-way doorbell to the phone type setup-- much like the post above-- Help him and you help me too!

Thanks

Don't know if this works for you or not.

Door Bell Fon (spelling correct) makes a two piece system.

Piece one connects with two conductors only at the front door; piece two connects downstairs where the phone service enters the house. System rides on top of existing CO. When customer friend pushes button, phones in house ring with a different cadence then a normal call. Pick up the handset and talk to the door. If customer is on the phone, they alone will hear call waiting tone. Hit flash, talk to door, flash again, talk to original call.

Useful product for smaller applications.

The nice thing is, you can use the two conductor bell wire from the original door bell to make it work.

Options include an external chime contact close adaptor as well as a door lock contact close generator.

I've wondered for years on why a manufacturer has not filled the literal and figurative gap left by the millions of Nutone and M&S sized holes in peoples walls with something better. Use the crappy existing wire for power supply, etc., and make a nicer looking (modular?) system that fits the opening. Transmit and receiver via rf, charge a bunch, and I would love to sell something like that.

Anyone listening out there? Elan? OnQ/Greyfox?

Let me know what you find out as I too am lookin for a solution for the same issue. Customer is upgrading from an old sony DST system (hunk of crap) to a nice elan system, but wants camera at door, no way I can get a wire to the door without ALOT of cutting.

Being in lexington and being friends with all the guys at Elan, they were unable to point me in the right direction either, soo good luck! . Maybe I can scope something out at Cedia in a few weeks.

I haven't looked behind the intercom in a while, but as I remember it's about a 5 x5 box recessed in the brick with an old pair of small guage wire. Whatever solution there is, some type of custom cover would be needed.
