I'm on my 8th year of installations with many remotes under me. Like most of us, I love the MX-850. I won't do an installation without one...or two.....or three....or more.

I have a large system, multi-zoned, that is about 4 years old with two Pronto remotes. Although the client has been using the system for a number of years without a hitch, he's looking for something a little more friendly to use.

I hate using product that has not had much time in the field, but I would like to give the MX-950 a try.

Has anyone installed one yet??

Picked one up at my distributor a couple of weeks ago - figured I would test it on my own system. I do not like it:

1) Don't like the forced "Listen" and "Watch" paradigms
2) The buttons next to the LCD are a pain to use (IMHO)
3) Worst: battery life is terrible - we've had to put it in its charger every 3 or 4 days - and that's after only moderate levels of use. I for one really don't like having clients having to constantly recharge a remote in a cradle of some sort.

I still think the MX-850 and MRF-300 is a very good combo.

I'm not so sure about it. The processing power of the 3000, in a one hand remote. OK. What do you need that processing powr for? No touch screen or customizable buttons. The VOL and CH buttons are to small. Nice feeling remote, but I think they wree looking at RTI when they did that, and they missed
Gunga.....Gunga....GU-Lunga

And since Ernie won't keep count, I will. Hes up to 249, and counting.

I just programmed my first one and the only complaint I have is software related. Not all of the icons are present on the screen and it crashes religously so I can get lots of practice redoing all of my work. Last night it took me an hour to learn a volume down button, I was upgrading from a MX-800 for ym boss and I was using the uni.browser to import the IR codes, well it took in the volume up but not the down. Tried learning directly from the 800, failed, tried learning from a Pronto, failed, after 13 tries with the original SL-9000, works. BLAH!

But I still like the remote.
Regards,

I too am a MX-850 fan. I have not had a chance to try an MX-950. Does the software come with the 950? I have been looking all over for it. I am sure it is right in front of my face (maybe even here). I want to load the software and play with it before I order an MX-950. Can someone post a link to it for my blind butt? I was hoping the 950 was the missing link between $400 and $1000.

www.hometheatermaster.com

Has the 950 editor in the files section.

I've been playing with it for a few days.

I've often run out of main pages on a 850 and had to get creative on big systems but,255 MAIN PAGES!!! almost make's my head spin!

I could control ALL of the systems I've done in the past 3 months ON ONE REMOTE!!!!

Over-kill on a hard button? Probably.

However, I like overkill!

I'll use the 850 for my familiy(I love the button layout and flexibility)but I think I'll get a 950 just to see what I can do with it!

Having the ability to adjust display settings, audio settings, etc.,etc. Without going back to 'main' to adjust and then back to the 'source' your watching has my attention.

I guess I can see if I can make it 'client proof' like I have with the 850!

Thanks Pilgram! You da Man!
How could anyone ever need that many devices?
But just exactly where do you stop? I do have a sportswriter client that has 8 TV's 2 rcvrs. 2 dvds 4 tivos 2 hd dvrs 4 vcrs and 6 sat rcvrs. in his office. I did get it all on 2 prontos. I was thinking this would be good for him. The novelty of the graphics wore off along time ago and he wants something more tile floor proof.

Glad I could help.

I don't think anyone will have 255 devices!
BUT, you can have the 'devices' on a far-away page and make the 'main page' selections be more user friendly.

In the case of your sportswriter client, the ability to make it perfect is insurmountable.

Label the main pages however you want, draw the 'commands' from the components that are hidden on some far away page(hidden), and you could simplify NASA!

OK, so it's not rocket science, it's actually BETTER because it WORKS!!!!

Yeti and All others,

Thanks for the feedback. Yeti, your problems with the learning and software in general is a good red flag to watch out for, thank you.

I will be at CEDIA in a couple of weeks, hope to see some of you there and get more information at the booth.

As I write this my boss is standing over my shoulder bugging me to decide on a remote to control this larger system we did a few years back. The pisser of it all, the TV is a 4 yrs old Samsung CRT without any discretes. Time for a new DLP, no?
