As stated above, MCE is really its own version of Windows. However, it is the same as XP Pro, except that it doesn't support cached credentials.

You can join a domain when you first set it up; however, this affects the ability of MCE to integrate with the MCE extenders. If you want to use an extender, you will not be able to join a domain.
