I know that I should probably be in the discrete hunter forum, however I feel more comfortable with you guys.

I am needing to know if the Samsung LN238W has discrete input selection. Anyone know?

Also, does anyone know if the Samsung LN238 has the same remote codes as the 190MP, which is sold primarily to computer geeks instead of through our distribution channels.

I would also like your opinions about the picture quality, functions, reliability, etc., because I need to spec in a lot of them (about 40 a month).

I think you might be out of luck w/ that one, although I never tried any discrete codes for this panel I havent had any luck w/ any of Samsungs flat panels.

Stew,

Is that the LTN, or the LNR? The LNR use the same codes as the plasmas, the LTN has some discretes based on the series.

Samsung are terrible things to try and control.
I had to create a different home page for each source in a system. Then each source on each home page had a different set of toggle commands to reach and enter the correct input. For example, on the DVD home page, selecting VCR might be (A/V, down, down, enter) but on the Pay TV home page, selecting VCR might be(A/V, down, down, down, down, enter). A big pain in the Butt, but it seems to work reliably.
The only saving grace is that when the unit is first turned on it always starts on a TV channel and the first time A/V is selected it always starts at the same point, therefore you do at least heve a method resetting the unit back to a known possition if it gets out of sequence. Very nasty, i know but the best i could come up with.
For the record, i did not supply the Samsung POS. The client already had it and it was incorporated into what was otherwise a new system.

Don't know if the above will help you but good luck.

Simon.
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

We have installed quite a few of the newer HLR series and the LNR series(Not to mention being around since the "good old days" of toggle everything) and have not had any issues with the IR commands since the HLM sets. The HLR even had the aspect commands working, and Samsung seems to have fixed the "Power On" command issue where the set would quit working after the fan turned off.
Problably going to change in the next version of firmware though......

Thanks for your help guys. It sounds like there is still a lot of uncertainty. Unfortunately, the Samsung 23" is the only one that fits in the space I need, and I need a lot of them (more than a hundred). I just wish Samsung would pull their head out of their ass when it comes to discretes.

I guess what I'll do it buy one and play around with codes to see what happens. When I find out more information, I'll let you know. Thanks again.
