OK, heres what I have, a 6 year old Mitsubishi VS 8087 (non HD), and a Marantz SR8200 receiver, the receiver has 2 Component inputs and one Component output, the output is useless beacause the 8087 only has S-video and Composite inputs. I want to get the new sony progressive scan 301 disc changer DVPCX875P, question is will the SR8200 convert the component video to S-video?

You'd have to read the manual to know, but why not just use the S-video output of the Sony? There's no advantage to using the componenet output unless you're going to run componenet unaltered all the way to the display device. Larry www.fineelectricco.com

Perfect you answered my question, I assumed (never assume) that the Progressive DVD had component outputs only, if it has the S-video then thats all I need, I know the progressive scan changer won't be benefical to me now, but down the road when I replace the 80" Mitsubishi it will be.

Progressive output will only be present on the YCrCb (Component) outputs. All others (Svideo & Composite) are NTSC & therfore interlaced. Furthermore, a display needs to have a scan frequency capable of scanning twice as fast as NTSC. Hence "HD ready" you see on newer TVs. The other post is correct, there is no advantage to down-converting the signal, better off to use S-Video, but a progreeive player is a waste until your tv is upgraded.

The marantz receiver will NOT convert between video signals....ie: run component into it, component comes out, same for s-video and composite.
