Has anyone played around with the rc5200 (or rc9200)
combined with the RF-77 extender, how well does it work, also looking at the pictures the RF-77 doesn't appear to have any IR emitters. Is this correct?

Also I noticed that in the manual it says some components may not work after going through the RF to IR conversion, anyone know of troublesome components?

Thank you.

I've never had a problem with them and I do atleast one a week, your codes have to be pretty clean though. You plug the immiters into the extender, the immiters suck though so I use Niles immiters wired in series instead.

I've had trouble with JVC and Parasound using the RF entender.

I use 'em with no problem. Just allow yourself some time to "play/test" it when you install it. If you do have 'dirty' codes it may cause some problems. Also look out for interference (especially w/ plasmas) and you may have to try a couple different RF channel settings.

(especially w/ plasmas)

Any hints to avoid this as plasma interference was one of the reasons for using the RF extender.

Would I be better off using something like the Xantech 490-90 plasma friendly sensor next to the plasma and running IR?

The cabinet with the AV components in is about 3 metres to the right of the plasma.

I have used it with two plasma's so far, the Elite pro1000hd and the Marantz 61" model, no problems.

Does the remote allow you to control the AV components via RF and the plasma via IR at the same time?

Yes, I actually had to do one where they had an equipment rack in the next room but didn't have an IR emitter on the plasma. So the plasma device is set to IR while everything else is set to RF (assuming you have set up a device for each device you're controlling) and it worked fine. The only issue I had was with a Runco plasma....everything was running RF but I had to try a couple different RF channels cause of interference...then again it could've been interference from any number of sources.

Were you using IR and RF within a macro (is this possible) i.e. change the channel on the plasma via IR while changing the input on the amplifier via RF.

I've used this remote and RF is my prefered choice with one exception: Fujitsu plasmas. I also use RF exclusively in a remote. I've had problems in macros mixing RF and IR.

Just re-reading your post....I had used an RC9200 but it should work the same as 5200 as far as this goes. That one I did that mixed IR/RF worked fine. It was a Marantz plasma with some marantz/sony components. I set the Marantz device to IR while everything else (including the home panel) to RF and in the macro just aliased the Plasma codes from the plasma device and it shot out IR.

Is this because of interference from the plasma upsetting the RF signal from the remote and affecting the performance of the other components, or is it the plasma not responding well after being converted from RF to IR?

This concerns me as one of the installations I am working on uses a Fujitsu plasma.

As best we could tell, this is a problem with the 5002/5004/4242 Fujitsu models. We haven't had this problem with the non HD Fujitsus. We believe it is an RF inteferance problem. These sets also affect Bose RF remotes. I don't like them but some people insist(on Bose). At least I don't have a trunkslammer pricing problem with either brand.

I've had multiple problems with the rf-77. For instance I have a customer who has a mitsu dlp rear projector and all marantz components. The couch in the room is about 20 to 25 feet away from the system. The remote, when being used on the couch, is touchy but once you move up about 5 feet works fine on everything except the dv6200 dvd player. The controls are really sluggish on it and you have to wait a couple of seconds between pushing buttons on the remote to get the commands to go through. Any Ideas???
