Hi all,
I want to include a universal remote control function into some equipment we are building.
Does anyone know if there is any agency or similar who sells constantly updated IR codes for any product?
I know that there are various codes available on this and other forums, but I am looking for a one-stop-shop where I can get codes for practically anything and be sure the codes work without the need for me to test them.
Pronto HEX format would be ideal!
Any help gratefully received.
Cheers all,
Paul

You sound a little new to remote controls in general and you gotta start somewhere:
There is no tried, tested, verified and updated list. If it was available I and every professional would pay dearly for it (instead of paying out the big bucks for hair restoration products).
One of the main reasons Remote Central exists is because there is no perfect list. Now, if you download remote control software programs from URC, Xantech, Phillips, Elan, Niles etc. etc. etc. you will find extensive (albeit incomplete) lists of every remote imaginable.
Why incomplete? In order to test them you need nearly every peice of equipment imaginable in front of you while you are pushing each and every button. Some identical model equipment even have different and/or non working codes - for example: that #$%?@#%$?&@$%#?@%$#!!! Samsung TV.
That is why if you have a problem with codes you come to a place like this first to see if anyone has figured out the bungup.

Thanks ATOH,
That looks promising - I will send them an email.
Yes Steve, you are right, I am a bit green on the real world of IR. We have our own hardware, but I am very unfamiliar with industry practice with the actual codes.
Any more suggestions welcomed!
Cheers all,
Paul

Yeah, Leaf, as painful as it is you almost HAVE to test all the IR codes yourself, because not only cna the code be wrong, but you can have a bad flasher, piece of equiipment, etc. Most remotes are fairly straight forward to program and with a little practice you can fly through it. And don't forget, you get to charge big bucks for this service.

How hard can this be? |

Universal Electronics is the place to go. Universal remote Controls and Celadon are other suppliers. All three companies will do your OEM remote control as well.

Hi Leaf To just repeat really what most users have found in this area. It would be amazing to have a full database with upto date IR codes for the many many systems available out there I myself wish for one everyday. I must say I have a reasonable database but this is made up of devices we have had the opportunity to test and one very helpful resource.. "This very website" I am sure nobody really can state that they have all the IR code we will ever need but this site is brilliant for help in this area.
Thank you.

If you take the time to download the K2 library at www.sonance.com it has a pretty impressive collection if IR commands. Shows the Hex and wave forms. I'm sure its not "all" the IR commands but it is a pretty big collection.

I believe that the databases in the various programming software for other manufacturers' remotes and keypads are licensed along wioth the software itself, and that copying them would be copyright infringement...
Buying a groomed database from someone like UEI would be a good choice. As it was previously stated, UEI supplies the DB for many other remotes and devices...
UEI is Universal Electronics in L.A. who make the All-4-One and Nevo remotes... not to be confused with Universal Remote Control in NY, who make the TheaterMaster MX series remotes.

For a couple of bucks I'll tell you where to find all the codes on Remote Central. You'll need to test them, great graphics too.
