If you were an immigrant seeking a CDL in IL under the George Ryan Sec. of State years, the questions were simple....

Cash or charge??

The funny part was that you could get a 60 and
still pass... that's right, miss 8 out of twenty
and still get a license! The chauffeur's test
was 10 questions, and you could miss 4... This
was in Missouri a long time ago - Hey Augsys -
is it still that easy???

I've never taken the MO test, when I moved here in 90', they took my IL license and gave me one of thier's. All they wanted was money.

The same is still true for the state you left.

If I remember correctly, it was electronic on a machine, you picked the answer, if you got one wrong it would give a brief reason why. If you passed the theoretical exam the next one was practical on the streets, I think the tester explained a bit where you went wrong, but can't remember well.

I also hear they have a liberal personal income tax system that makes it worthwhile to set up shop there if you are a road man.
I read somewhere once that OTR truck drivers set up primary residence on OK just for the tax benefits.
Sometimes, that is just a (wink, wink) boarding house, where an OK resident forwards your mail to your "secondary residence" in exchange for a very modest rent.

This thread motivated me to look into certification, for the piece of paper if nothing else. I could always make a badge that says "Was CEDIA Certified, Found I Meant Nothing."

On the CEDIA web site, I could find no mention of tests, locations, schedules, or fees. So I sent an email to CEDIA asking where, when, how much, -- and it was a bit hard finding an email address that seemed relevant. That was three work days ago, and I have gotten no answer yet.

I think their webmaster might learn something from www.websitesthatsuck.com about how to create a site so that people who go there can easily find what they want! What good is a web site if it does not give people answers or a quick route to getting them? More to the point, why would anybody pay for a web site that places barriers between the user and the company? In this case, the barrier was lack of ease locating a relevant email address AND lack of information about the certification process. I mean, if I want to get certified (I AM certifiable!) and the information is not there, shouldn't there be an email address RIGHT FLEEKING THERE?

I see these guys are also not spending their money right on the web site itself!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ummm... Ernie? Did you look at the links on the left??

There is a link along the left side of the home page that says "certification", in the menu it takes you right to the descriptions and 2005 calender.

Otherwise, here it is:
[Link: cedia.net]

and here is the finder service that allows you to plug in a zip code and mileage radius to see all of the CEDIA members in the area, including a notation of the dealers with Certified staff.
