I did some research and didn't find the answer, so I thought I'd post.

My brother has a Dish301 receiver in one room, has has the output split to a second room. He asked me to help him be able to control the dish receiver from the second room. The total distance might be 20 feet.

I've done a handful of other IR extnders and figured this would be a simple IR project. I used a Xantech CB12 connecting block and a Xantech 480-80 receiver. Fired up the system and it seems like the receiver is getting the IR signals and passing them to the next room (ie.. the sensors light up with pressing a button on the remote). At best the results are intermittant. It works fine if the remote is about a foot from the receiver, but doesn't work reliably farther away. Just to clearify, even from a distance, the IR receiver still lights up, but the dish receiver does not respond. I've also played with the emitters placement.

We are using the original remote, and I tired new batteries. The rooms are in the basement, so sunlight is not a factor, We've tried with all the lights off also. There are flourescent lights (but I figured the CFL friendly IR receiver should help avoid that interferance.) I've also tried a bunch of different placements for the IR receiver. We also swaped out the Dish Receiver with no luck.

Any other troubleshooting suggestions that I am missing? The next step is to sell him a MX-350 & a MRF-250.

Thanks for the help.

Dish Network makes a UHF remote with an IR base. The blaster goes under the 301. Works pretty good.

Thats funny Greg. The dish 301 RF extender and remote worked terrible for me- so I tried the Xantech IR injector kit (291 kit) and it worked great.

The CFL friendly reciever is probably the problem. they cannot deal with all the same frequency ranges as the regular versions.Try the standard "hidden link" IR reciever and my bet is that it will work just fine. If you use the smaller receivers, dinky link or micro link, you can add sunfilters if getting interference. NOTE: if the receivers talkback led is not flashing or glowing when the remote is not being used, then you are probably not getting interference.

Simon.
