I have a bare room to work with and the client wants a rear projection setup for lower fan noise and doesn't want to see the projector or its booth in his room. Since focal length is the same either way I want to shorten the rear projection with a mirror setup. I'd like the gear/ projection room to be around 6 feet deep maximum.
While I'm sure my vendors have solutions... I wanted to talk with you guys about what you've used and liked for this type of system. Anyone?

Da-Lite has a nice single and 2 mirror system. Have used both and have been very happy with the results. I would recommend using a projector that has a short throw lens option. I know Sim2 and runco have them. Not sure about others.

Stewart have some awesome units available. They have all the mounting hardware and the PJ caddy.

Now to throw a real wrench in the works. Customer doesn't want to see any speakers or the sub... wants it in the front equipment room. Won'tthe bass shake something so sensitive? My experience tells me yes. Any of you put a sub within 5 feet of an RP mirror setup?
I'm a dealer of Stewart and Perfect VU and can get Da-Lite and my disty... thanks for the feedback guys!

We've done the same type setup and it worked great. You will want to build enclosures for the speakers(back boxes) even if it's a free standing monitor. A plus is more sound will project into the room. Make sure you insulate the inner walls so the speakers don't have that canned sound and you should be fine.

If you use a high quality recessed sub, like a Triad, and your carpenter builds a reasonably strong box you should have no problem. I have not done a custom rear projection system in 15 years. We put in two of the first Stewart Optasystems sold. They did wind up being about 6 ft deep and two Gold subs, enter channel and some electronics are in the cabinet. Screen was a 100" 1.33 diagnal. The biggest issue will be getting the center channel on axis but if you can angle it correctly I doubt you will have any issues--save finding a DLP with a throw distance short enough ( .6 ) for a mirror system with that small of a depth. They exist but there are not many of them and they tend to be pricey. As are custom rear projection systems.
