I'm doing exactly what I've told other people not to do. Finishing a job that the customer bought the equipment. They agreed to the price and the no warranty issue but just as important is that it was referall from someone in a position to give me more referalls down the line.

so they tried hanging a 30" magnavox LCD on the ceiling. It's an omnimount bracket. As far as I know they didn't finish it because the electrical outlet is in the way but I was wondering what you guys think of this setup? It's one of those brackets that the TV is just held on by gravity and at that angle it makes me a little nervous since the gravity is pulling it kind of out instead of down. So wadda you think? Maybe just a few zip ties to hold it tightly down? At least it's not OVER the bed and going to land on them while they are sleeping...or doing whatever they are going to do....

I have hung a few Plasmas on the angle of a coffered ceiling. Looks realy cool!. Whenever I d it I will only use a peerless mount PSWT. The plasma mount slides into the wall bracket.

Oops, missed that... OK Coffered ceiling... I thought that was that 'tic-tac-toe' type of grid on the ceiling, usually in wood libraries... If it's the omni fixed bracket, I wouldn't worry about it. It's very solid. If you are worried, there is a screw-down option on the bottom of the mount.

sorry, yes coffered ceiling. I always thought they WERE called coffin ceilings before I learned differently. so I still call them that jokingly, only it's hard to get the inside joke if you weren't there.

The omini bracket does have some tilt to it. Iv'e never used it before. It's similar to the Premier PCM100 in that there is a wall bracket with two bars. Two matching hangers on the TV and you just drip it on the wall bracket. There is a little flip tab that keeps it from popping out of the slot but the tolerance isn't very tight.

Based on what this, I think I'll go for it. It's only a 30" right?

If you really want the suspenders and a belt theory, go ahead with the zip-ties, but remember not to make it too hard to get back down for servicing...

Ted, drill a hole through both the TV plate and the wallplate, then use a simple cotterpin to hold it in place. Just slide the TV on and slip the pin into place, worries be gone.

I'd go with the peerless mount, too... The Omni mounts don't look like they can handle the forces a horizontal ceiling will put on it...

Of course, the Fat Boy Test could prove me wrong (I'm not fat anymore, so I can't do that myself... muahahahaha)

Sounds like you're really talking about a "tray" ceiling (one large recessed area, typically with sloped sides).

A coffered ceiling is a completely different matter (multiple recessed areas, typically divided by "beams").

But personally I like the COFFIN ceiling thing........

I put a Sharp LCD on a 45 degree sloped ceiling so patients in a dentist's office could watch TV whilst being drilled, filled, and billed.

I showed it to one of the hygienists, and noting that the patient would be laying down and looking backwards (TV was behind them) she said, "but you put it in upside down! The picture needs to be upside down to see it!!" Grab the remote and press FLIP...."WOW!!"

THats one Big Coffin............. I've only managed to fit 17" LCD's inthe Coffins I've installed TV's in...

Still cant figure out what a dead guy needs a TV for though.
