Does anyone have experience with the newer Yamaha receivers, using the second set of IR codes? I have two Yamaha receivers in the same installation that I want to use from the same remote without utililzing IR routing techniques.

I have looked at Yamaha's website, which I believe refers to the codes as "IR2" codes. However, based on the chart on the website, it appears that the power codes are the same for the first and the second receivers. Please don't confuse first and second receiver codes with zone codes. Does anyone know about the second receiver codes? If so, I would very much appreciate your help.

I guess I should have done my homework prior to posting this thread. However, I'm delighted to tell you that the new Yamaha receivers are an installer's dream machine.

The RXV-2500, retailing at $1000, but typically selling for less, has almost every feature that you could want as an installer. There is a discrete for almost everthing! Not only are there discreets, but a second set of discretes, so that you can operate two receivers in the same environment without interference.

I found the information on Yamaha's website. Check out "Standard IR codes" and "Extended IR codes". If all companies had the features of the Yamaha, our life would be a whole lot easier.

It also has RX-232 control.

Some of their other products are pretty hot too. Their new 55" plasma looks great. My understanding is that it also has a complete list of discretes, although I haven't personally verified that.

I am also very impressed with their new "sound projector" (we're not supposed to call it a "speaker"). It looks like a gimick, but after seeing/hearing it demonstrated, I found it to be really ideal for certain applications. For instance, in a condo, or somewhere where it's infeasible to run wiring or cut holes in walls. It needs a sub to sound full, but I think it's very impressive.

Hopefully, more major manufacturer's will follow Yamaha's lead for products that are as installer friendly.

Sounds like you went to a yamaha training. they do have a great line imho.

the 2500 is a great piece. i spec only the 1500 and 2500 for recievers. Spec'ing the 4600 now too. its a 2500 with hd radio, hdmi and a few other features. the rear ir port works with k2's, xantech and most other keypads. I have used the 1500 as a 3 zone preamp whick worked very well.

the ysp1 does need a subwoofer, but imporessive for what it is.

i have installed a few of their 42" plasmas. all the discretes on the factory remote. Its a hitachi set with a hitachi remote. (Am I allowed to say that?) Both brands ir codesets are identical. The picture quality is very good on both plasmas. I need a 55" for myself. Yamaha - Are you listening?

Steve/Bart or anybody else that has any insight.

What do you use to control the Yamaha's?? We recently started using the line and I am have good success controling thier receiver's with the Prontos', but I am not having much luck with their DVD players in particular. One moment the remote works, the next momment it does not. We use SpeakerCraft IR products and I have tried the Pronto RF unit as well with the same intermittant results.

Discrete control of the multiroom is great with the Yamaha, after not having much luck with the Pioneer Elite line.

thanks,

Just got caught with that one this week... The DVD-C750 (for some unknown reason) uses 'toggle bit' IR codes. There have been many discussions of this on other parts of this website. If you are using a Pronto, I believe there is no solution other than to use a different DVD Player, but there are much smarter pronto people around here than me... Maybe they will chime in. I believe there were only one or two models, and then they fixed it? Anyone know which are which? We are Yamaha dealers, but we almost never use their DVD Players, so I haven't had a lot of experience with each model...

Roddy,
per my Yamaha rep, a lot, or maybe all, of the current Yamaha DVD players are Philips units. If you get a Yamaha DVD player with an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet added to the carton -- some of which fall out before the carton gets opened -- Yamaha, you could have used a small bit of tape to keep it in as you obviously slipped it into the side of the carton after it was packed --

and this sheet of paper tells you how to get service for this DVD that is differerent from the regular Yamaha service channels, that is because this is a Philips unit and they are (or at least were a month ago) exchanging them rather than servicing them.

I hope this has something to do with your control difficulties, and might shed some light on how to get past them.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

we use k2's and sonance navigators. for remotes we use mx-850s. i have been installing the dvds1500's and dvds550 s without a problem. their new dvds are supposed to be better. i have a dvds2500 to install soon. i let you kinow.

the the discretes on yamahas site can be done with the 1500 and 2500 factory remote. a real nice feature

Thanks for the input everybody. I am not sure about the 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper in the box. I have not been around while the actual install was going on, I have just been coming in at the end to do the Pronto's. I will ask the guys on Monday and I will set something up at the office to try out.

I do not remember which models we were using, but Ido know one of the units did not respond to any dicretes I tried. I have to get my head together and get all this straight soon, we have only used the Yamaha's in 3 or 4 projects so far.

Ernie,
Do you use the Yamaha DVD players and how do they work for you. You use Marantz and Pronto for control, no??

djnorm,
Which DVD players do you use, we are also going to try a combination of the Yamaha receiver and Pioneer components and see how that goes.

Stew,
Sorry did not mean to hijack your thread. I do highly agree with you about the Yamaha receiver's being so installer friendly. Now if I can only figure out how to make their DVD players the same life would be golden.

Thanks,

I have a feeling that they are working on it. Wouldn't be surprised to see some great new models at next January's CES. At least I hope so.

i just recieved a few dvds657. brandie new model. its a cheapie to replace the dvds550. ill let you know. i havent had any problems controlling the dvdc940, the dvds550, dvds1500, dvds540. i tend to avoid the multiple dvd players and usually spec a single dvd and a 5 disc cd player. i did however get talked into doing a few 5 disc dvd dvc6760. i hope that doesnt spiral into a nightmare. anyone use that unit?

We almost always use the Pioneer Elite DVD Players (59,45), and then when necessary, like oex, we use a 5-disc CD. Every now and then, there is a space problem, and then we use a Yamaha DVD/CD 5-disc. I had some small issues with the CX2, 900, 990 etc, but they worked... this 750 (I think) kicked my butt... We'll be bringing them a different one soon...
