Hi,

I currently have a Harman/Kardon AVR8500 (AVR8000 in USA) as the centre piece of my setup. I have read alot lately about the new AVR7300, and its ability to upconvert video signal's to component, amongst other new features.
Is it worth changing receivers, or should I stick with what I've got?
Is the cooling fan on the AVR7300 audible during low level listening?
Whats the pro's and con's of each? Is the AVR7300 a genuine replacement for the AVR8500, or does Harman have a new topline receiver in the pipeline?
I am a big Harman/kardon fan so don't want to change to another brand:)
Also any good tips for a hard drive based system to store all my cd's on, prefer not compressed.
Thanks

If you are happy with the sound and processing of your current receiver, don't change it just for the video switching capabilities.

I am not familiar with the specs of the two models, but if it is just the video switching that you desire you can get an inepensive (relatively) switcher to do the job for you.

You didn't list any of the video components that you are currently using, but often times installing a scaler will allow you to accomplish the switching, while improving the overall quality of your video at the same time.

Thanks heaps I'll look into the video scalers. All the Harman products I have owned have been awesome, and thr sound is definately a cut above most.....
(it seems some people have had problems with Harman products, but luckily not me;)
Love them....best sound...thanks once again

LOL!!!!!

On topic. The video upconversion in the AVR635 was pretty awful. I wouldn't expect much different in the 7300 but they could be completely different. But no, don't changed just for that. Especially if you have a working unit.
