I have a customer with a Niles IRP2+ infra-red repeater system and two MS-2 (Dinky link size) infra-red receivers.
All was fine until he upgraded to a Fujitsu plasma, even though the sensor is positioned almost 2M from the screen there still seems to be alot of interference (ir light on the IRP2+ flickers constantly although sensor infra-red light doesnt).

Most the components work ok, sometimes slightly glitchy except for the Denon AV amp which seems to respond slowly and intermittently.

Is there anything I can do with the existing equipment to get it to work better or could I use a Xantech 490-90 mini receiver (will this work with the Niles?).
I have tried a CFL friendly receiver but it doesn't like the satellite system , will the 490-90 receiver overcome this problem.
I have heard that Audioplex produce something, any experience with these.

I have a Xantech Microlink mounted right @ the bottome of a Pioneer Plasma and it works great. But, I had to put a piece of electrical tape over the eye. It doesn't look bad. I took the clear disc out, put white electrical tape over it and cut the tape around the disc. Put it back in and it looks like factory. See Below.

Just want to alert you guys to a real strange one. I had a dinky link that kept blinking, with no apparent source of IR in the room. During the search for the source of the problem, I found that it was cured by placing two layers of BLUE ! ! ! painter's tape over the sensor window. All worked well.

Incidentally, the Sony two-tuner TiVo responded to about 75% of the commands sent to it before and after the blue tape. Never found the source of that problem!

Thanks for the electrical tape idea,
I tried this and although it seems a primitive way of
doing things, it actually solved the problem straight away (two layers worked perfectly with the remote still working well about 8M away).
Luckily I had some white electrical tape on the white sensor so it is virtually invisible.

No problem, just something I remembered from a post awhile back and tried myself.

CFL friendly xantech will work perfect.
Plasmas generate a whole s*** load of EMI
The same is true with lighting control systems.
An Electronic (Ferrel) two magnets encased into a plastic tube. You can find them on Mitsubishi big screen ir blasters. you loop the wire through this(Receiver wire) and it will choke out unwanted emi in ir systems and voice/data systems as well. GOOD LUCK FIGHTING THE EMI MONSTER its all about trial and error!

CFL friendly targets are good if you don't use any equipment with a higher IR carrier frequency than 40khz.

If you're using RCA products, you will find that the repeater will not pass their 57khz carrier frequency.

John P good call all proscan/rca stuff is strange to say the least. Good news I have been able to manipulate the code to work perfectly in macros using cfl thingys!

The reason I wasn't using a CFL friendly receiver in the first place was because of their limited frequency range. (The Satellite system is out of range of most CFL friendly receivers).

However I believe the new Xantech 490-90 has a much greater range (that of normal receivers) and should work with most appliances.

I'd be curious to know how your maniplulating the code to get it to work.

Use the audioplex, passes all frequencies I've found, and costs $129.00, versus almost triple that for the Xantech.

Seems to work as well as the Xantech to.

I've used the Audioplex piece with mixed results.

Though I will say, getting any control system to work reliably when using a Plasma, is more of an art than a science.

Are we now magicians?? LOL Sometimes.
