Does anyone have a proposal template they'd be willing to share?
Along those lines, is D-tools worth the investment? Im not a big player in the field, so Im not yet doing the $50k systems that require massive design, planning, etc. Are there other programs/software out there that will help the CI gut, but without all the bells & whistles (and expense) of D-tools?

D-tools-VE is a great starting point for a small CI firm. There's a lot of post about this at IP.

Does anyone have a proposal template they'd be willing to share? Do you have a good item list, with up-to-date cost and sell prices?

Installers know how to do installations. Business owners need to know how to get installations done -- and a whole lot more. |

Quick Books can be pretty functional for doing the gear and pricing side of a proposal. It aloows you to set up group names for things like "Drops" and "Rough-In" and "Surround Sound System" that let you combine all merchandise, materials and labor into a single line item. You can put in customer-friendly descriptions for items, instead of just listing brand and model #. You can even subtotal a proposal by room or phase. But you need to be working from a good item list. Covering a QB estimate with a Word doc that nicely presents your business makes for a pretty decent proposal. Not as comprehensive as the D-Tools system, but far easier to master -- and it lets you build PO's and track payments and deliver items off the estimate, no problem.

Ironically enough, Quickbooks is what we were working with all day. Making progress. Sowly, but making progress.
Thanks for the tips

We use quickbooks, you can customize it and make a nice proposal. It works great for us. When you buy pay attention to this: they have regular quick books and also Quickbooks-Pro, the first doesn't allow you to do estimates/proposals, the PRO does. good look with your co.
