My project coordinator says that you can program a MX-850 w/ a computer and then clone it to a MX-650. I called BS but he swears it. If it is true can somebody let me know how to do it?

I don't know but I was just thinking about this yesterday. They are talking about coming out with their own version of IR clone and the MX650 seems to be pretty much identical to the MX850 except for the little data port.....

Just for kicks Im trying to dump an 850 into a 600 right now, I thought about this awhile ago, but never tried it.

The two are not cloneable. For cloning , both remotes must have the cloning feature. There is no cloning feature with the 850 (because of the PC programmability), so there's no way to dump it into the 650 other than by learning individual commands.

You can't clone them.

However, you can learn the database codes onto a 650 via an 800 or 850. I actually carry an old 800 in my laptop bag to use as a programming aid when I do 650s.

We install a lot of LG plasmas along with 650s. The LG remote does not have discreet power or input commands and the 650 does not have them in the on board code files. The code database in MX Editor have them. So I download the codeset into the 800, then learn the needed power and input discreets from the 800 to the 650.

Takes a couple of minutes to do and the client winds up with a more fool resistant remote.
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.
