heh.. fly me in.. I'll straighten it out for you.

It's been a while since I pointed at things and said "That goes there, this goes over here, throw that away, and send that guy home, he whines too f*cking much..."
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

brandenpro,

As everyone has mentioned and Penny G put so clearly, to fix a problem you first need to define the problem. It not apparent to me (us?) what problem you're trying to fix other than indicating some requirement for control.

How are the receivers to work with the displays and or the surround sound receivers. An integrated solution is maybe what the customer would like, but not apparent to me based on your description of the requirements.

In addition, the Dishnet equipment requires different hardware to solve the problem (i.e. satellite switches for DTV will not work with Dishnet, any High Def receivers? they use different hardware again)
Logic is a systematic method of coming to the wrong conclusion with confidence.

Well I havent spoke with the customer yet, when I do, I find out what they have and what they are trying to accomplish. That will help no doubt. I wasnt bringing up the Rose Garden to try and big time, but the first 2 replies were well umm arrogant. I felt I needed to defend my friend that runs this company. The problem for them started when the guy who was running the LV side was caught up to no good company time company materials you know the drill IM sure. Im just trying to fill in untill they can get someone or train someone, to take over. For anyone who is interested...

http://www.cherrycityelectric.com - they built this company and sold out in the mid 90s
http://www.northsideelectric.com/ - they bought this company started out with 3 Electrical Journymen and now have 37.

What I would do is run the coax from the dish to the panel and run 3 Coax back to the plasmas for componet HD. Run Cat 5 from panel to each TV (zone? thats where things get fuzzy for me) for IR repeater for remote control. The problem is they dont want HD they dont want to pay for the HD wiring, they arent hooking up surrond sound but are prewire for that in the main room. They are putting in a Russond cav 6? but not in every room with a TV. So I will try and make them understand why what they are asking for is not a good idea, but in the end if they just want to have it a certain way and thats all they will pay for what can we do?

I guess really I need to find out more and go from there. Thanks to everyone that pointed me in the right direction.

brandonpro,
My first post was not at all said in arrogance! It was stated as a warning to you, as it seems this scenario has been dropped in your lap. It would seem to me that if the said equipment is being spec'd into this job, someone is suggesting this equipment, and therefore should involve some serious conversation with the home owners as to what they are looking for. At that point, you will be able to guide them through all the different options available, etc..
Good luck!

You are in a difficult position.

If you are the one who will be responsible for making all of this work in the end, you will need to take a great deal of time with the client to design the system. That means starting worse than from scratch.

If you are just filling in for the wiring part until someone else comes in to make the sysem work, it will be very important that you and the client agree on what your responsibility really is and what their responsibility is.

You might want to consider having them run 2 coax and 2 cat5e to each display location from the panel. This is flexible enough for most designs and usually prevents the labor heavy costs of retrofiting in a missing wire. In my opinion, you can never have too many wires, but you mentioned their concern with cost. Don't forget to point out that a poor wiring design may end up costing them twice as much in the end. My father always told me to do it right the first time. I think this is good advice.

Your post was in the CI section not in the satellite. Many of us see posts from our fellow peers masked as 'wanabees' etc. Posts are OT and your email address listed with the least amount of info possible had me thinking you were fishing.

My mistake! I would still consult a pro as there are much more that next year demands/brings. Wire for down the road not for today.
