A client bought a consumer Pioneer Elite 50" plasma, one of the ones with a media box, through someone else, and I connected the system.

When I programmed the Pronto TSWU7000 to operate the system, there was a bit of flakiness to the way the MOXI responded to the number commands. I can't say I remember any other type of command being difficult.

The client has had such trouble with it that he and his teenage son (as we know, kids can ALWAYS work this stuff) spent almost an hour trying to see if they could get it to work right. Commands such as 904, a local HD channel through his MOXI, came out as 9, or 04, or 90, which does not exist so the MOXI did not switch channels. About 5% of the time, it worked.

Well, his plasma started shutting down fifteen seconds after turn-on, and I went to confirm the problem. Pioneer says they will be out with another media box.

Meanwhile, I tried out the remote and found that it had no problem changing channels.

The $64,000 question is, could the Pronto be working fine because the plasma is off, and when it is on, it causes the MOXI to not respond properly? It has always seemed odd to me that plasmas will mess up IR sensors and remote systems made by Xantech, Niles, or whomever, but would not mess up IR sensors in the actual equipment. Do we finally have a component that won't work with a plasma in the room?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

ernie,

I have labored extensively with the POS Moxie Cable box, my conclusion is that it is flaky to start with. The channel numbers need to be entered fast or else it times out and inputs what ever digits are entered.

I finally got RTI to learn the codes (due to its strange ir protocol) and they sent them to me in a RTI library format (which is the same as the Sonance K2). The file is in the RTI files section under Motorola "media centers"

However that won't help if indeed you are having IR interference from the Plasma TV. My systems use NEC plasmas and with the equipment out of sight using the RTI RP-6 RF unit I don't have problems with interference, I just have problems with the flaky Moxie unit in general.

I would try to use RF and cover up the front of the Moxie box as an experiment...(if the customer wants to pay for the time troubleshooting)...Good Luck

Problem is apparently solved with no further information coming forth.

The client sent me an email about something, and asked if I had had any luck getting the channel changing to work. I explained to him what I wrote in the first post above.

Pioneer replaced the media box before he could try out the channel changing without the plasma on. Suddenly he and his family are having no problems changing channels. Somehow a bad media box made the plasma exude some kind of IR interference? I doubt it, so I just don't know why it now works.

But, it now works.

Ernie,Hi,I previously posted regarding an incompatability problem I had on an install with a moxi & a mosaic touchscreen remote. The moxi commands were so inconsistant no matter what I did.I contacted UEI who manufactures the Mosaic and they created a code for this. With the Mosaic they download it via the telephone. It now works flawlessly on all my Moxi installs. Also I spoke with Universal Remote & they were aware of this & have the proper code available for their remotes.
