I recently got a Motorola DCT 6412 DVR through Comcast. I hooked up the s-video cable to my Apex 3225 TV. The picture is great, but there is one problem, it's in B&W. My TV has two s-video inputs, one of which is used for my PS2. The PS2 connection comes in in color, as well as my cheap Magnavox DVD player when I tried that (it's normally hooked up through compoment video directly to TV). I thought it may have been a bad s-video port on the TV but the PS2 and DVD player come in in color on both ports. I've tried different settings as well on the 6412, with no succes. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

It's gotta be the S-video ouptut connector on the DVR. Tell them you need a replacement.

On second thought, if this is a stand-alone recorder, what's the source? Were you using S-video to record? Does it have built-in menus that are also B&W?

You may want to unplug the cable and take a look and see if any of the pins are missing from the end. I have never seen a bad output for that style but there is always a first, I ussually see busted pins.

Excellent point, Glen; eliminate a bad cable as the culprit.

As usual, what seemed to be a larger problem had a simple solution. You guys were correct, it was the cable. One of the pins was bent. I straightened it and everything is fine now.

Thanks for the help.
