Any time you deal overseas, wait until the 'check' clears, give it another weak or two, and then ship the product! Preferably on a 'boat' you rented and then hand deliver it! I've heard of some bad experiences, but never dealt with it personally. I'm just going of of what others have told me.

It's still a little like the Wild West down there from what I have seen and heard. Mexico is the same way. I wouldn't put ANY amount of product out of my sight until I had money in hand.

It should fall on the resonsibility of the client to provide you with secure storage, and I would be sure to make it crystal clear that you or your insurance are not liable in ANY way if product is stolen from the worksite or in transit.

You may even want to touch base with your lawyer about this one...

I've vacationed in that area a lot and it's true!
There really are 'pirates'!

I never set sail without my trusty Glock!(just in case, I haven't needed to use it, YET!)

Great place to visit! Just remember:

I've worked all over the Caribbean, esp, in the FL Keys...for over 6 years.

ANYthing South of Miami, you carry it down yourself. Gear, Tools, Parts.

A dishwasher in Miami makes US$3.80 an hour. In Key West, he makes US$20.00. It's the most bizarre local US economy I've seen in 35 years. Once you get off US soil, it gets far worse. The logistics become so time-eating as to make it the worst sort of nightmare.

Carry it down.

Jamaica is a place where stealing and cheating is a way of life for the majority.

Even if you hand deliver the product, you are still somehow likely to get screwed out of it. The culture seems to be based on two things: Getting high, and stealing.

I wouldn't touch that deal even if it were at a 90% markup.

I would reccommmend a broker to handle it. Also be aware there is a 50% tarriff on everything. It is not uncommen for them to "sieze" the gear until you negotiate a value, as they have no idea what that stuff is worth. I have had them hold gear for 6 weeks until your broker can "cut a deal". You might have a hard time profiting on a 75K job. Good luck.
