I'm going to be installing some NetMedia SCE2 security cameras. They will mount on the ceiling of my porches. They use 12V power. I want the BNC and power cords to be hidden.
Do I have the electrician install a power outlet in the attic? Then plug a 12V transformer into it.
Thanks, RedDirt

RedDirt That's what I've done with similar jobs. Be sure to wrap some sealing tape around the BNC connections. Even though they're in the attic and out of the weather, they will corrode somewhat, and the small amount of electrical current hastens the process. Of course, seal the cables where they go into the camera, too, to keep critters and dust out. Dan

I would strongly suggest running power wire back to your head end along with the video wire. It is much easier to troubleshoot this way, and you will already have power back there for the other electronics. You can even buy video cable with a pair of 18 ga. power wires in the jacket, called "camera cable". Much, much easier than having an electrician install an outlet in the attic, then you installing a power supply there, and then having to connect the video in the basement.
