I was at the CEDIA management conference last
week and asked quite a few people what they used
for proposals....wnat to know the answer??

It wasnt D-Tools...ok 1 in 12 used parts of it
and 1 used all of it but most were using MS Word,
Excel, and a few misc others

that was a shocker

I think a lot of people make the mistake of thinking dtools is a proposal generation software package, and maybe this is do to poor marketing on their part.

Dtools is first and foremost engineering software that just happens to generate pricing from the engineering documents. We use dtools (just upgraded to si4.0) as an engineering tool, now our proposals include some drawings but the majority is done in Microsoft Publisher with numbers generated by dtools. What dtools is not good at is word processing or page layout, I think you will find that most firms with dtools follow our model.

Whatever you end up doing....we have found that when emailing it's convenient to send the proposal as a PDF. You preserve your formatting and it's openable by Mac users as well.

Always save as a PDF. It can sometimes be a PIA building your binder before you save it as a pdf. We use word for our contract, and excel for the quote sheet with prices. Just got Visio and trying to work that in. Nice thing about Adobe Pro, you can assemble all kinds of documents and builder you pdf fiole however you want it, using any type of file.

But...ultimately you want to send the file as a PDF.
