Has anyone come up with a fool-proof location on the DirecTV HR10-250 for sticking an emitter from an HTM MRF-250? I know from past experience that putting the emitter on the Ir sensor is a no-no (it's too sensitive, I guess), but I've usually had success with just moving it a little bit away from the sensor.

I've done that with this particular install, but it's still not reliable. Going to the new MRF-300 (which has attenable Ir outputs, or so I'm told) is not an option. The HR10-250 is installed in a closed cabinet.

Crack it open and place the flasher inside the unit. Works like a champ and on service calls for emitters falling off

Looks like I've found the best solution: someone at www.tivocommunity.com suggested sticking the emitter on the shelf surface, in front and perpendicular to the (stupidly engineered) Ir sensor.

Tried it this morning at the client site, and it appears to be working very reliably. I'm not a big fan of opening units and placing emitters inside - but that's probably just me.

I did this earlier in the week, and no call backs yet.

Try an MRF 300 and crank down the levels until it don't work, then slowly bring it back up until it does. After a bit, you'll hit the sweet spot.

IIRC, emitter port 6 is hotter than the others for stubborn gear like blasting a box with a Lutron Spacer.
