Hi,

Is it necessary to take the very expensive CEDIA Boot Camp to pass the level 1 Installer test? There's a multi-hour review you can take beforehand, and I'm wondering if it's enough.

I sub out my in-wall work, but I install and program all the components myself. I guess I'm worrying about the in-wall wiring part of the exam. Any suggestions?

It's pretty easy for anyone who has been the field for any decent amount of time. Best bet is to try and get the book for the review from another integrator who has taken it.

Thanks guys, I feel much better now. I've been a reviewer for over 20 years, but only an installer for 4.

I'm taking the quickie review course just in case :)

Since you are used to reviewing, please take the opportunity to rate the course and test combo.

I am curious to get a feeling of how well a person could do with retention of the course alone vs. reliance on acquired knowledge from experience.

Thanks.

I didn't take the course last year before I took the test. Just studdied a buddies book from the year before, and scored a 95. Still trying to decide if I should take the Install II or the Designer instead.

There is a book from the course??

If that's the case, does anyone have one to sell??
I want to put myself and three others through the whole set of Installer and Designer tests, and if I can get by w/out the $600+ for the Installer I pre-test courses, that would be great.

Guys be aware that even when you have a lots of experience on the field there are questions on the test relate to integration that are not even in the review course like for example: In thermostat where is the red cable connected to?
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

My problem with these tests is one who is new in the business can take the course then follow with a test and pass. WOW! So what exactly does this mean to me. Kind of worthless as anyone who pays the cash, has a decent memory can pass.

I just took the Installer I exam last year at CEDIA. Passed just fine but came out from the test with a well....................

These Titles should only be held with a test and WITH experience with min. of years with each level. That will not "Catch All" but weed out ones who set up the local trunk, pay the cash for the course and exam and according to CEDIA have the same certs. (from them) as I do.

Sorry CEDIA, but buying you way in doesn't seem to be the way to go here!!

Level one is a joke, (I think I missed one quesiton that was phrased wierd) and anyone with basic install skills and common sense could pass it with flying colors...Level two was a bit harder, but not a killer, lot of stuff related to the management side of the business (OSHA standard, employee mgt, building code, NEC,....) still got a 90 though.
What part of "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." do you not understand?

Got to agree with what's been said.

All you really need is a pulse and a pencil, and about 20 minutes later you are a level 1 installer. (Well actually it takes a few weeks to get your results in the mail).

I took the certification review course a couple of years back and got the book, which I showed to our junior techs recently, and they asked in all seriousness if this was for real. (And these guys had only about six months experience between them!).
Live each day like it's your last. One day you'll be right.

Well in another thread here we got the attention of Rich Green who is the Chairman of the Certification committee.

We need to let them know that if CCPI I qualifies a company to market themselves as a well trained company, then it doesn't carry much weight.

I proposed that the current CCPI I test should be moved to the status of pre-test, and that the current Installer II test needs to be passed within the 36 month eligibility of the first test to actually get an CCP Installer certification.

Is it possible that CEDIA might have changed the Level 1 test to make it more difficult -- recently??

That was the rumor floating around the shop, but I never confirmed it...
