Quick question. Have you/would you use dual channel in walls like the Def Tech DCS5 for both the side and rear surrounds and wire accordingly. My situation will only allow for surrounds in wall about 30" from the rear wall and would like 7 channel surround. Will this work having the rear drivers firing into the back wall? Here's a link to the speakers [Link: definitivetech.com]

Don't use the dual chanel inwalls, use the bipolar inwalls. [Link: definitivetech.com]

We've done it many times, and it works... It all depends on the layout of the room as to whether it's the right thing to do...
(personally, I prefer the BPZ/A + DCS6 combo)

oh, I see what you are saying now...
You want to use the forward firing pair as the sides and the rearward firing pair as the rears.
This should work, but I would still consider using one pair of better speakers instead of two pairs crammed into a single compromised package.

but sometimes the room wont allow for it. in this case its a retro and there is only room for 2 speakers - not 3 or 4

We have used two DCS speakers (side/rear signal to each) instead of 4 BP's with excellent results. Go with 4 if you have the room but this is an excellent alternative.
Good Luck!
