The manual says it's for controlling other Sony products, but...

The media box is in a bookshelf 30 feet away from the plasma. OK so far for remote control purposes, but now the client may need a cable box. I can do an RF remote to control the cable box, but here's the question:

Can I come out of the control s jack with a simple emitter and control the cable box? The Sony remote is a learning remote and will control the box directly with IR.

I don't have any experience with CONTROL S.

Thanks!

No.. You cannot..... You can interlink sony COmponents... and you can even control the device with the Control s by using IR with the Carrier stripped, but the Control-S will only output sony codes.

You can use a Xantech 794 series universal interface off of a standard IR repeater system to control Sony S link ( and many other propietary interfaces)

A bit OT ... But why dont high end plasma / LCD manufacturers include an IR output jack on their media receivers that us custom installers can then route to other components ... why should we have to stick an extra IR sensor somewhere on the set when there is one already built in. I can see customers buying a $300 dollar box that converted sony S link output to standard IR for other components if that meant not having a seperate IR bug stuck to their TV.

And yes Sony - when you adopt my idea as listed above you can send the royalty checks directly to my checking accout ... e mail me for the details!

Especially when the ones we stick on work *MOST* of the time but not all the time... grrrrrr...dumb.
