Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster, I have always found answers here by searching, but this one has eluded me for a while now.

I have been looking for a small universal/learning remote to be used for multi-room second zone power on/off and source selection. I know I can use a number of remotes out there to accomplish this however I need something that has very limited buttons on it.

I sell and install Denon A/V recievers and they have a great second zone option, but the main remote is cumbersome for my customers to use. I have tried the small multi remote they sell for the audio the only multiroom receivers but they dont power on and off the second zone on thier A/V receivers, and the source selection is not the same.

Anyone run across this problem before? I have been to CES the last two years and the best answer I get fromt the remote companies is "thats a good idea, but not enough requests for it" Denon has said they may reindroduce the extra remote, but so far no luck.

Thanks for any Ideas, and oh yah, I need it to be resonably affordable....$50-100.

Stefan

Stefan,

I think the Universal Remote Control MX-350 woudl work nicely. Plus, it's RF capable, so you don't need to run IR sensors and your customers won't need to worry about pointing it.

If you're interested, let me know.

Thank you,
Damon DG

How about the Weemote DV? It has 9 keys that can all be taught to.

Thats the idea, I am a little concerned about it not being able to acept repeating codes, that may eliminate the abilty to learn volume up and down. Have to pick one of these up and play a little. not crazy about the colors though.

Thanks for all the input, that is what I have been asking for.

Damon,
Thanks for the reply, I have seen this remote at CES this year, and seems too big and expensive for extra multiroom purposes. I like the RF idea, but I dont know about leaving that monster on your bathroom counter.

Thanks for the input,
Stefan

I would look at the
- weemote DV
- ask in the One for all remotes forum
- old harmony 745/748 if you can find them
- old HTM MX-200 used to come with the 700 if you can find it, it is not a learning remote but PC programmable using the 700 editor. You will need a 700 to learn any command

just saw this thread [Link: remotecentral.com] don't know if it helps. If they can cross a DV and a sr it might be better for you.

Man, I have been searching for MX200 sidekicks for a while now. I need this exact same thing with the addition of macro capability. Short of buy a 200 on Ebay for a fortune, I am stuck.

Ask around about the MX200. I know a lot of people who literaolly have boxes of them from when they came with the 700. I'm sure if you threaten with viole...I mean, ask nicely, you can get a few. Hell, start a thread on here or at one of the other installer friendly forums and I bet you'll get a fe nice souls willing to offer them up.

URC Missed the marketing on the MX200 Big Time.

ANd they absolutely DO have macro capability..... They can do anything a MX700 can do.

If I remember correctly, there was a guy down in Texas who successfully got one to do close to a 200 step Macro.

there is nothing a 700 could do that a 200 could not. The difference was less buttons and no LCD.

Impaqt, I agree that the 200 was a cool remote, but there is also costinvolved. The 200 internally was a lot like the 700, needs a bit less memmory and no LCD, but would it be at an acceptable price? the problem is that most people think smaller=less expensive, while in reality I would guess that it might only be a few $ less to build

Carl, about 6 months ago I posted everywhere, asked all three of my local reps/distributors for dealers who bought a bunch of 700/200s and I came up dry on both counts. If you have any... :)

And that remote was fantastic. 200 steps is awesome.

Anyone have any they want to part with?

I dunno..... Wasnt it at like $ 79 Retail if you bought em separate? I find that resonable.... I NEVER saw it marketed as a stand alone remote.... Always as an add on to the MX-700... Which made no sense to me... You just bought a Universal remote to Simplyfy your life.... and now your installer is telling you you get this simpler simple remote too????

Duh....

I don't know, my point was only that sometimes things that look cool don't make economic sense.
