I've done some crazy plasma installations, but this one is the first one where I refused to install it. We had a customer where we wired his entire condo for multiroom, and a "T.V" going above a fireplace. Well, 6 months later we're called in to do the final on his place. I go in and put in all the multiroom speakers, volume controls and etc, etc. Well, now it came time to put up this "T.V", which I find out it's a plasma going into this recessed area above the fireplace. Okay, fine. So I ask where the mounting bracket is at. The contractor for this customer of ours goes on to tell me that there is no bracket. So I'm thinking, "oh, okay, your going to go get one", and the contractor goes on to tell me that they want to silicone the plasma into this recessed area!!!! Needless to say, that blew my mind. So, I started asking questions on how they want to do this. Well, I took some measurements, and to find that the recessed area has only a 1/4 inch of space around each side of the plasma. Now I'm starting to picture this plasma sitting in this recessed area with a 1/4 inch of silicone all the way around the plasma!! Now, I'm starting to laugh to myself. Than, I go on to realize that there is absolutely no ventalation holes for the heat to escape. Yes, that's right, this area, with a plasma siliconed in there with no ventalation....... I was going to give it about a month, tops, before it melted itself. Now I'm almost in tears laughing to myself about this situation. Well, I went back to the contractor to explain to him about this situation, and he goes on to tell me, "Well, I'm just doing what everyone else does!"...... well, that just sent me over the top....... I walked away laughing my ass off. Called the boss and told him, there is no way that I or the company should be installing this plasma, because than we would be held responsible for a melted plasma. He agreed, and we left the plasma in the hands of the contractor who apperantly has done this many of times.

Another rediculous job from Calgary!

And I was laughing at the guys who spray painted 1.5" black gas pipe silver... along with the couplings, and yes... two 45's.... drilled the holes in it and mounted it above one of the most beautiful fireplaces.... Floor to ceiling stonework...

F.L.W. would not have approved.

Oh yes... They tried to tell me there was no other way besides the black pipe way...

Did I mention this was dropping down from the ceiling...

black pipe finds it's way into many mounts ... but there are solutions when necessary.

Who needs a fireplace with all that radiant heat? Silicone is the best choice cause it will keep the plasma from leaking over time - tastes like chicken.

PDP's bring out the "best" in some people......lol

I've heard some good ones before, but using silicon to hold a PDP in place is really out there.......

It hard to believe that someone could possibly be that stupid.

Probably a result of AVAD having a booth at the BUILDER'S SHOW.

Wait - I need more info for when I do my first one. How long do you have to hold the plasma in place until the silicone dries? Does it take one or two men to hold it? (need to know whether to apply a one or two man rate).

:^)
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I refuse to believe someone siliconed a plasma TV in place. Could you please take pictures? It could become a famous picture.

We actually had to fix a distributed audio system that one of our competitors installed. JBL bookshelf speakers in all the rooms, then bose outdoor speakers. The compnay DID NOT know how to use binding posts. They did not loosen the binding post and stick the wire in the hole, and tighen it back down on the wire. They stuck the wire in the hole where banana plugs would usually go and siliconed them to the connector. All speakers in this house where done that way. Since this job I have cleaned up there other jobs where the smae thing has happened. I cannot believe that someone in this business would not understand the conecpt of binding posts. Still not as funny as siliconed Plasma to the wall.

I walked form a job where the homeowner bought 2 used (floor demos ) 37" lcds. I had done the DA for the home was was to furnish & install the lcds. She shows up with these things, missing parts, etc. I ask where the brackets are and she says, "they want 250 each." Your going to drill holes in the corners and nail them to the wall.

We have found that a jousting pole is the most effective way to mount most problem client's TV or speakers to the wall. We have had trouble with our aim on occasion and hit the client. oop.

Don't ask me why I know this, but I would recommend that both horses and riders wair an OSHA approved helmet.
