I've installed a KX-TA624 and TVS50 voice mail system into my home in my low voltage closet in the basement. There are no ground rods or cold water pipes (plastic) available as a hard earth ground. What's the best means to ground these two pieces of equipment? I know the center plug on my 120 recpt is grounded back to the dist panel which is bonded to earth ground....Is there such a thing as a recept plug in ground tap that's code legal? The equipment is also on the opposite side of the house from the earth ground grid, so no easy access to the external rods, and I don't relish drilling through my concrete floor.

If you read further in the manual, It does state that grounded plugs will work, however they suggest you check voltages first.

Robert, does this equipment come with a grounded (3-prong) plug? If so, that's all the grounding required.

If not, let us know. There would have to be a separate grounding terminal on the phone equipment.

It does come with a three prong plug, but yes, there is a seperate chassis ground. It's supposed to disapate surges.

Larry,

What AHEM said....It does have a grounded plug, but the manual also talks about grounding the chassis as well on the supplied grounding terminal.

I did find the info that Gerald referred too, and I know my ground at the elec outlet is good, so for now I guess I'll stay with the grounded plug only.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Robert

If there isn't a close house ground (25ft etc), trying to take a wire across the house is worse than not using the ground lug IMO. The difference in ground potential between the AC ground and 'ground lug' can be huge with spikes from .........

Use a PanaMax or ITW/Linx TowerMax surge. They include a graound lug on the top of the protector. In order to maintain the connected equipment warranty, all connected equip grounds must go back to that ground. Of course the 120V rec must be properly wired.
