hey guys,

I am looking for a special wall plate and was wondering if anybody might could send me in the right direction. I have a customer that has double gang boxes for his volume controls and had us put in an A-BUS system, now he wants a single opening plate that will center the kp in the middle of the box. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Chris

I went down that route before. I did not find a product (this was 4 years ago) and I ended up cutting my own out of the pass and seymour plates because they were the easiest to cut. I did not build a support bracket first, which was my mistake, and the keypad was soft and moved a little when pushed on.
So I guess you will have to ask your client how much he is willing to pay for the ustom made plate. My charge would be $75.00 ea.
Other options wold be to sell him a AB-1.2 switch to go along the side of the Abus, or sell him a K2 in place of the Abus keypad and then just bury the Abus keypad in the wall will the IR emitter on it just below the New K2!
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

Well, depends on whether there are really boxes in the wall (and if they are nailed on or "old work" style, or rings. In either case you should be able to find, at ANY hardware store, a single gang mud ring that centers over a SquareD style box. I'm not sure if those rings will fit over a 2 gang switch/outlet box vs. a SquareD, but you could drill screw holes in the right place and make it work. Otherwise, if you can remove the old boxes and put in retrofit SquareDs that would work for certain.

Liberty Panelcrafters are great products, but I think maybe overkill for what you are trying to achieve.

And tearing apart the wall, Installing new P-Rings, remudding, sanding and re-painting is not overkill?

Well I tried that and his other half(and I mean that in a good way) just could not live with blanks in half. So I guess I will have to cut them out myself. Thanks for the input.

Whoa there... I think you should reread my post before jumping on it. NOTHING I suggested would require tearing and patching the wall given that I asked if there were retrofit boxes there in the first place. The implication was that those could be easily removed. Sorry if I wasn't more clear. Anyway, I think Carlon makes a centered ring that should fit any 2 gang switch box, or again, it could be easily drilled for new screw holes.

I again will say that Panelcrafters are great, but there are other potential options. I didn't mean to offend you Impaqt by mentioning them as I apparantly did in using the word overkill. You are a valueable and respected contributor here and I would hope you could extend the same courtesy to the rest of us...
