Is anyone using a PC to feed mp3s into an amp system that is controlled using NetRemote and a PDA? I am thinking of using this for my whole house audio system as it is very hard to control my Digital Audio receiver blindly (with remote or keypads). I am talking about adding songs to the playlist, selecting playlists, browsing the library etc. Obviously, it is easy to tell it to skip to the next song.
If you use a decent quality sound card, is the quality of the output good enough to feed into an amp?

Depending on the design of the motherboard in the PC, and the power supply, lots of noise can be injected. If you are worried about the quality of the audio using the D/A's on the sound card... don't use them!
I would suggest using the optical digital output of the sound card, even the digital coaxial output should be good. You can feed this into any whole house audio system you want! This will give you quality comparabe to the Pre you choose.
I have used the outputs of a good quality sound card fed into an amp, and ended up playing for a while to get rid of noise. I had to experiment with how to ground the motherboard in the chassis to the chassis itself. (Ended up using insulating washers on some of the motherboard ground points to alter the paths of the ground noise.)
Haven't used NetRemote and a PDA, can't comment on how well that works.
Windows Media Center Edition works quite well, has a very nice interface. Might work well for your purposes, since media player is available on PDA's might be able to control the Media Center PC over a 802.11 connection. You might want to talk with someone at one of the better PC stores about trying that out with a Media Center PC and PDA. Some of the PC's manufactured for Media Center might fix the noise and grounding issues, where I played with a Media Center PC, couldn't really evaluate this.

Get a Media Center 2005 PC.
Install a Soundblaster Audigy 2.
Wait until the new Prontos appear, one of which allows two-way communcation from a Media Center PC I believe.
