In our market they have just introduced Polar Ply radiant barriers on the roof. It's basically plywood with a layer of Aluminum Foil on the inside of it. This is casuing us new problems with placing the local antenna in the attic. Anyone else deal with this in their area, and have possibly found a resolution? I guess, it's back to installing the antenna outside?

Yes, big problem. The foil acts as a shield against any RF signal, so really, no antenna whether it's tv, fm, or am, is going to work very will in these attics...must go outside with them. Hope their local homeowners accociation will allow exterior antennas...

We are going to see more of it in our area as the new code is adopted. Thicker walls and/or metal/foam insulation. Yea, can't wait. I am sure all my clients are going to lover their new FM dipole on the roof. I guess I will attach it right next to the vent stack and say it belongs to the plumber. :)
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

No need to worry about the HOA! They don't have the right to stop you in most cases, this is covered by federal law. Even if you signed deed restrictions!

See this link: [Link: fcc.gov]

What the above link says is basically... if you own the location where the antenna is mounted, or the location is your personal space... like a balcony, you are allowed to put the antenna up. Under very narrow circumstances can a local authority take the antenna down. It is up to the HOA or other authority to get a waiver from the government before they can force you to take the antenna down. (Unless they have evidence of a safety danger. Example: Mast close to power line.) Even if you must take the antenna down, you cannot be fined or charged for putting the antenna up. The law clearly states all the above points.
