Have you guys played with the new Hughes rcvr yet? I just got one in and it has some decent features but is missing a few others. I thought I would post this thread to let you guys know what it does etc. Please add any experience you guys have had good or bad. I think this is a big step better than the samsung p.o.s. but still not quite as good as the LG/Sony from last year.

Coolest feature: HDMI, Component, Svid, and Composite ALL LIVE AT ONCE!

Other cool stuff: Good off air antenna signal meter, IR and RF (but only one at a time), front reset button, detatchable power cord, very fast guide response, Caller ID, and overall more customizable features (ie, instead of 'short' or 'long' banner timeout you choose 2 4 6 sec etc.).

Not cool Features: RF remote reception kinda shaky, no RF output (seems to be becoming standard), only full, zoom, and pillar box video modes (no panorama or cinezoom).

It also has a nice ability to choose how many formats you want the format button to scroll through. You can have it go through only the three aspect modes for 1080i, or scroll through all the various resolutions and aspect ratios (or select only two reolutions to scroll through like 1080i and 720p) cool for some reason, but I am not sure how useful that is yet.

There is an RJ11 low speed data port on the back, does anyone know if this is live and what the codes are?

I just installed one of these yesterday and wasn't impressed. I was a fan of the Samsung receiver in my installations. They were fast reliable and the RS232 worked flawlessly (although only one way communication :(). This install was a quick one though with no chance to check the RS232 on its RJ11 port labeled "low speed data." I was also suprised to see "Tivo'esk" transport buttons on the remote intself, I wonder if TIVO is out soon and DTV will be building all of their own PVR's. I also didn't get a chance to check out the HDMI but I hope its more reliable than the Hughes HR10-250.

I beleive you are talking about the new DirecTV branded recevier manufatured by thomson as Hughes no longer makes directv receviers. All in all pretty cool little box. Major HDMI issues though. And they are very random problems. Toshiba TVs for example will not work with HDMI to this box. Just outputs purple video. Kinda wierd. The software on the box is great though. Haven't tried rs232 but the box is basically an RCA receiver on the hardware side so it should not be a problem. I'll play with it and see what I can figure out.

I used the HDMI on a elite plasma, looked fine watching terr. ant HD, didn't get to see the directv HD channels since lient wasn't around and I didnt have all their info to sign it up. I still prefer the LG/Sony boxes overall but I think this one functions better than the samsung.

Is this the HD-10 Model?

Has anyone else had issues with the off air antenna input? The receiver constantly reboots while the terrestial antenna is hooked up. We replaced the receiver once already and the new one does the same thing. Directv says low antenna signal can cause this, but we are getting in the 90's for off air signal strength . Highly annoying and have found no fix as of yet. Never had a receiver do this until the new directv branded HD units.

jputtcamp: What distributer did you buy the satellite receiver from. We've been looking for HD & HDDVR DirecTV satellite receivers with simultaneous video outputs. The models numbers seem to be listed the same from one distributer to another but are often built by different manufactures with important differences.
