I have a project that needs a 42" plasma to raise thru the floor at the foot of the bed to a decent viewing height.

This is *not* a standard cabinet lift - when retracted it needs to be flush with the hardwood floor. I've got roughly 5-6' below the finished floor.

Anybody recommend a lift manufacturer? I know Inca makes one, but I've seen another interesting one, but now I'm drawing a blank. Help!

Auton. We used them twice this month at the foot of the bed in cabinets. If you have on 5-6 feet you might not be able to elevate it enough to see it from the bed. The customer might be watching their feet depedngin on their bed height.

We had a similar situation only we had to come down from the ceiling a great distance.

Lift-Tech (i'll get their website addy for ya) built us a lift that was basically a lift inside of a lift so we could get the drop we needed out of the ceiling.

I beleive someone now also makes a telescoping pole lift that should accomplish what you need. I'll see if I can't find the info on it.

I don't like the Inca lifts. The last one I ordered had no manual. The remote controller has very strange logic and can get out of wack easily. It makes no sense to me, and it certainly makes no sense to the client. Push this button, wait, then push the other button, then push the first button again, unless it is a Wednesday, then reverse the process and push the 1st button three more times, then kick it, pee on it, then push the second button again.

I would more likely trust Auton for lifts. They are expensive, but I think reliable and intuitive to operate.

Have you ever though about a cable drive lift. We've used these for unusual long travel. They require less space and are ultimately quieter. Back in my Car Audio days we used them to motorize every thing under the sun. We currently build our own cable lifts using a UL approved power supply and battery. If you’re handy you can easily build one your self. If not there are a few companies out there you can purchase them from (summerlifts).

Good luck.

We use www.electrokinetics.com. They will custom build you any kind of lift or mechansim you could need. Just call and talk to Eric or Jesse. These guys are amazing. Just ordered a lift for the foot of a customers bed.

We recently Inquired about a 2 room lift with Daniel Gilstrap. The lift held the plasma between floors and raised to a center height of 3'6 adn lowered to the room below at a height of 48" it was to be controlled with Air instead of the nice and noisy gears.

The compressors are remote mounted to reduce any noise in the lift. We have not ordered or installed any of his lifts as of yet but will be the first we call on the next lift system, He will design just about any lift needed for the application

here is a link to his site. Just email him with what you need

From an installer/programer's view. I just wish our lack luster salesmen could sell cool stuff like that. Ive finally have the selling an RC5400 with each job, period. And Ive taken them from AM/FM Stereo receivers and speakerdistrobution to Elan. But I would just love to install something motorized.

I really hate guys who post asking for advice and then totally abandon the thread... but hey, I've been *really* busy-

Anyway, thanks for all the feedback. Here's what I have so far:

* Talked to Electrokinetics. Claim to be able to build anything, and I think I believe them. Great service so far - I'm very impressed.

* Talked to Auton. We still have a 35" CRT lift we installed in a store demo in 1987 and the current models look identical. (If it's not broken, don't fix it!?) Totally reliable, but sounds pretty industrial - it won't exactly sneak up on you. Nothing stock in the current lineup quite fits, and the words "custom" or "modified" never came up. I guess what you see is what you get.

* Talked to Inca - they have a model that will work and the quote was fast and complete. Need to research the control issue Stew mentioned.

* Talked to Activated Designs, aka Tele-Plas. Very different telescoping design they claim is the smoothest & quietest of all. Worth looking at.

I'll post the final results when the fat lady sings...
