What you are getting in kind words and in sarcasm is that this looks so simple in your mind, but

it seems to be changing, which makes it impossible to do. It is said that you can't hit a moving target. You also can't MAKE one.

There are myriad small difficulties which will stop a newbie cold that have stopped the rest of us cold, and we know how to overcome them, sometimes to the extent that we would not remember to mention them to you if you asked for advice.

The suggestion about the multiple VCRs that could be changed to multiple HD cable boxes contain a VERY important concept: if you do not have some clue what is coming in the future that you cannot see now, you might be really pissed off if you figure this all out and do it, only to find out that you missed something that would make it work tomorrow, too.

In conclusion, find someone, in the business, who can come out and look at your site, who is willing to discuss this with you. Pay them for their time. Tell them honestly if you are buying off the internet as they might not be able to afford to just tell you stuff and then not be involved further. Watch out for an "expert" who can help you and does not care if you buy anything from him, especially if his price is EXCELLENT, as a guy like that will not be in business in a year when you need him to tell you why he screwed up or what you do now.

Sorry. Reality bites.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
