I have a custom builder that wants to put a Samsung DLP above the fireplace in a spec home of his. We were brainstorming and I mentioned that 2-way mirror MIGHT be a possiblilty. Opinions needed. Can this work with a DLP television, just curious. Also, is there any type of Vision Art that can be displayed on the screen or that covers the screen to hide the TV. Thanks again.

I've used Vision Art once, but I do recall them being able to customize these fro you. I'm thinking you could get a backless one and with a little creativity it should work. More importantly be carefule you dont place that DLP to high as the picture from a sitting height will be horrible (learned the hard way).

Good luck

We have done the 2-way glass with tube televisions and a plasma. I would think it should work very well with a DLP and the light output they produce.

One thing we have found is that the closer the mirror the brighter the image through the mirror. We put a tube television behind a 2-way once where the tube had to be about 4 inches away. We had to crank up the brightness to get a ggod picture because there was a lot of ambient light in the room.

I've done several displays behind a two way mirrors, in bathrooms, and can tell you that in a family room application with a big screen, I don't think it's going to look good. There'll be too many side issues.

Better yet to use one of the motorized tracks that will slide a painting to the side, or up out of the way, or have the carpenter/cabinet maker utilize a set of drawers slides, mounted to the back of a painting, to create a manual sliding painting cover (full extension slides, to the side).

I don't know how long mits bulbs last, or how pricy they are, but if that's not an issue, is using a roku an option? 1080i photos and artwork... pretty nice.

Once again this is a spec house, so cost is an issue although it is a 1.5 million house. We are looking at many options, but the 2-way mirror is the favorite. If it will work. I have looked at the dvd's that play artwork and fish aquariums, but that would use up a lot of life on the tv. Thanks for the help
