I am the king of remotes, and i was given a huge box of crestron stuff, CT-3000 10" touch pannels, crestnet II rackmount boxes with tons of cards on the back, little 6" touchscreens, basicly a ton of crap. I looked on crestrons web site for some software to program it, but it seems unclear on exactly what i need. any good resources for the king?

Whoaaa! What a windfall! Crestron falling from trees? It's late now, but you'll get lots of responses from the Crestron crew here.

You should do something special to show off the most unique among those remotes.

King - Your self-inflicted moniker piqued my curiosity and I read your profile. For years I've been collecting wooden rulers, and the creme' de la creme' is displayed in a large square coffee table with a glass top. The first drawer slides out in order to place objects de' art under the glass, and two storage drawers below are for rulers that are being rotated out of the display. I also have a large framed shadow box on the wall, where more wood rulers are kept under glass.

King: The CNRACK is sort of like comparing the wooden ruler to the tape measure. Make that a tape measure with laser beams and digital readout.

However, this should provide you with countless hours of fun as you attempt to get it to work. Hopefully it will prove to be usefull. To be fair, that system works just fine on more limited setups.

The files that you need are:

SimplWindows_2_02_11.exe
VisionTools_Pro_e_2_4_1_6.exe
Crestron_Database_1574.exe

They are constantly updating their files, so if the version on the website is newer, it is ok.

so, i take it that i need all 3 of the above software, now how do i actually make the connection between the pc and the crestnet ii? or do i do each item separately? being a pronto guy, you know im used to having it easy! how many of the touchscreens can i connect to one system? I think it would be fun to have one in the bathroom, bedrooms, garrage, basement, ect.

sheik zappa, i understand your obsession completely, but does your wife?!

My wife doesn't dare say a word about my antique desk stapler collection, tin and diecast toy collection, ruler collection, rotating stable of "odder than oddball" vehicles, A/V equipment, and overkill power tools that I have no business owning, for she, is the Queen of Clocks, and possessor of way too many sewing devices. Ha Ha! within my financial means I've got Carte Blanche. (Shanti!)

Besides, she is truly the greatest & loves techno lookin' A/V stuff; she didn't even want me to put doors on my built in 2-bay rack cabinet. Whotta' girl! (No, she's not lookin' over my shoulder either.)

Yes. Simpl Windows is used to program the controller (Cresnet II) logic, and Vision Tools Pro (VtPro) is for designing the touchpanel screens. The CT-3000 is supported by VtPro, but older panels may not be, and require an older version of the software. You don't directly use the Database, but both programs need it for definition of system components.

now how do i actually make the connection between
the pc and the crestnet ii? or do i do each item
separately?

There should be an RS-232 connector on the front of the processor. The only items that require programming, are the controller and touchpanels, which can normally be done through the same connection. Older touchpanels may require a direct PC download.

how many of the touchscreens can i connect to one system?

You can connect up to 255 external devices, including touchpanels. If necessary, multiple controllers can be "linked" together for greater expansion capacity :-)

I think it would
be fun to have one in the bathroom, bedrooms,
garrage, basement, ect.

Not only fun, but very convenient :-)

The touchpanels can be used to interact with ALL the home's systems -- A/V, lighting, security, HVAC, and more.

King, it looks like you DID hit the mutha-lode. I mean it's not NEW, but it's FOUND! If all that stuff's in good shape it sounds like you'll have an arhival Crestron system just for the effort. (Which is probably going to be considerable.)

Although those are all discontinued models, it's still good stuff, and supported by the current software. On the low side, it's worth about seven or eight grand, so I'd say you got a pretty good deal :-)

The Cresnet II and MS are controllers, and you only need one. You *could* use two or three, linked together, if you want to get "tricky" or need more inputs, outputs, or program space. That would still leave you with five or six to sell, and make a few bucks :-) If you don't use all 12 touchpanels, they're also very popular on Ebay. Or, I'd consider trading programming for some of your surplus -- email me, if interested.

Hey King-
I know it's been a couple months, but did you get rid of all those CNRFGW's? Were they CNRFGWA's or CNRFGWX's. If they are the 2-way, would you be willing to part with one of them and how much? Thanx

King, I'm sure there are a lot of us drooling over your stash. Crestron programming can be learned by a very ambitious person through online manuals and telephone support. However, I suggest taking there basic programming class and bring your questions. I think they maintain a training facility in Atlanta. You can check schedule at crestron.com. Also, I, too, would be interested in picking through your overstock.
How hard can this be?
