I was wondering the exact same thing. Maybe he's assembling a theater our of junk(ie) equipment? Read your letter to AVI yesterday morning.....scared me half to death. I just got this stuff....now I'm gonna have to replace it with DVI and Firewire compatible stuff? My wife will NOT be pleased about that.

Okay, WHAT LETTER?

The editor wrote to me saying something or other about a letter I wrote...I forgot I ever wrote it. She is an acquaintance of an installer friend of mine, so I was sharing some thoughts, not writing a "letter to the editor," and I did that a couple of times, so I have no idea what the heck got published.

If you want to publish something, publish this:

There is only one reason to use RG-6 QUAD instead of regular RG-6, and that is so that the next installer to look at the installation cannot immediately raise his credibility at my expense by saying, "wow, they didn't use quad? Quad is soooooooooooo much better than plain RG-6! ! "

(I have confirmation from a tech type at Belden that Quad offers a benefit in maybe one out of ten thousand circumstances, such as running cable in a transmitting tower....
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Well.....if there's another Enie Bornn-Gilman out there....the world might be in serious trouble. I guess I'll type it all out.

Dear AVI.
I heard a couple of stories today that concern me. As I understand it, TV broadcasters have suddenly decided that it would be cool to make all HDTV broadcasts 720P, using a port called DVI with a copy-protection scheme built in. If this happens, present HD units of all types will be obsolete because very few present products have this port. It is suggested that this issue is the real reason that satellite manufacturers suddenly halted HD receiver production late last year. Any comments or sites you know of where I could find info on this?

Sincerely
Ernie Bornn-Gilman

That letter. Page 12 of the September, 2002 issue of AVI. Unless Ernie Bornn-Gilman is a commonly used alias....I assumed it was you. I recognized the name from RC.

This thread got lost....but I'm still curious to know if you wrote that or not Ernie? So for that reason alone I have re-posted in hopes that you will respond and let the truth be known all over the forum. Has Ernie reached the big times and been published? Or is he just..........old........,and is somebody using his name?

I am real, have not reached the big times, was published on this site for a DILA ccf and a Yamaha RXV1 ccf before being published in AVI, and the editor really is an old chum of another installer friend of mine. I have never met her but emailed with her a few times regarding an installation that I did at Catherine Bach and Peter Lopez' place, that was in AVI a couple of years ago, where I never got any credit because the owner of the installing company correctly sensed that I was getting ready to move on to another company.
I wrote that letter to her thinking it might inspire her to have someone call around, as I figured she has many more contacts than I have. Little did I know that she would just publish it to see if anybody would bite and supply information. It still is just a rumor to me, but now I don't even remember where I heard it. Maybe I'm getting, as suggested, just..........old.
