Hello,

Is there any such thing at all as a HDMI termination end that can be soldered on to a custom length cable? If not, what's the longest run possible and can I run a conduit to a projector to fish an HDMI cable for future use?

Are you guys generally prewiring for HDMI these days or should I just stick to a coax bundle for now?

Thanks in advance,
Tristan

It is pretty much impossible to "roll your own" with HDMI.
How ever by the first of March you will be able to support up to 100' of HDMI cable with an "End of Line Restorer".
This will not require an ultra expensive cable.

Geffen makes a DVI solution that runs over dual Cat 5 wires. The solution involves 2 black boxes. The equipment cabinet end (source) which has a DVI input, converts to dual Cat 5. At the projector end is another black box (supposedly no power needed on the PJ end) which receives the dual CAt 5 and reconverts to DVI out. I'm pretty sure it is hdcp compatible. MSRP of $500. Tolerates pretty long runs of Cat 5 between the 2 boxes (don't remember the exact limit). Supposdedly is 1080p capable too. Haven't actually used one in the field but I am running 2 extra Cat 5E wires to every projector in an attempt to allow 1080p if ever needed.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

On most of our PJ's we run one 2" conduit (Carlon) from the EQ to the PJ. We also put a nylon fish string in the bundle when pre-wiring, for easy pulling later on. We usually run 2 CAT5's, two 6-core HD cable, sometimes HDMI. We monster for their long HDMI cable. With video over IP, you can use the CAT5's for almost anything (HDMI, DVI, Component, Composite, Etc.) Check Google for "baluns" also look at the devices from gefen.
