Hello,

I'm not sure if this the rght forum, but I need some help.

I have just bought my first house and am getting ready to do all the funky stuff including HA/X-10 etc. But 1 problem I have is trying to sort the Multi Room AV.

I have at present (I'm in the UK) my Sat, DVD, VHS, X-Box, CD all running through my Yamaha DSP-A2 with a 5.1 system and then into my Panasonic TV, all nicely controlled by a Pronto.

What I would like in the new house is to be able to view the Sat/DVD in the bedroom with obvious IR control. I know this is possible via hard wired distribution amps/splitters etc BUT how do I keep the 5.1 sound in the living room.

Someone suggested using the a/b speaker function on the DSP-A2 but this is not IR controllable

Any help is appreciated

What quality etc level of audio do you want in that second room?

The simplest solution is to take a channel 3 (this is the American approach, but I am sure you have a parallel solution) output from the Sat receiver, plug the DVD into a VCR, and daisy chain the VCR and the Sat receiver so you get everything on the TV in the other room.

If you want stereo in the other room, you will have to buy a stereo receiver. If you want stereo in the other room but only need one room to operate at a time, you could, maybe, create a macro in the Pronto that would take the receiver out of 5.1 and switch the main speaker signal into the other room via a Xantech switch. In fact, you could do this with 5.1 and more poles of Xantech speaker switch.

Another level up is to put the video through a DA and then present component and normal video to the bedroom TV. This is more wires, more cost, and way more satisfaction.

I would think things through in the order I have presented them. If a plain old RF input, most likely mono, would be okay in the bedroom, then fine. The first improvement I would make would be audio, then video, and I have described things in that order.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks Ernie,

I had a look over on the Xantech website for some ideas.

Would love to have 5.1 in the bedroom, but I think stereo will do for starters. I have stereo receiver, in fact it's the Yamaha amp that I used for Pro-Logic before I bought my DVD player.

I have an idea of running the digital audio from the DVD into the main AV amp, and then using the phono connectors to connect to the bedroom amp. For the other sources I could use the Scart (for the audio) for the main amp and the phonos for the bedroom amp.

I'd have to check but couldn't I run the video feeds into a splitter (something like this -[Link: letsautomate.com] it would also give a spare output maybe for the kitchen) and then to both amps, using them both as source selectors. The only problem I can see there is the fact of both amps being yamaha, I'd have to check about different IR codes.

Am I on the right lines do you think?

how about upgrading to a yamaha rxv2500. you can have audio and video out for a second zone. this would create a clean and simply solution. discrete codes for all 3 zones.

Thanks oex, that looks almost ideal - maybe I could use the old DSP-A2 to run the whole house audio then
