Since I can’t find the answer from YouTube TV, I thought I would ask here. Every time I attempt to use the DVR feature, the program ends up as a VOD. Is there a secret setting somewhere to make the default choice DVR?

  • YouTube will attempt to record all new episodes of a show.
  • A key point to be aware of, however, is that YouTube TV DVR sometimes forces users to view the “on demand” version of programming — even if you’ve “added” the show to your DVR.
  • In most of these cases, you will also be forced to view advertising that cannot be skipped, though it is typically less than what’s on traditional TV, despite the fact you’re paying a monthly fee to YouTube.
  • In other words, for programs under this setup, YouTube TV doesn’t operate like most traditional DVRs where you can skip commercials entirely.
Best explanation I found. I think I'll go back to DISH.

I use YouTube TV, I as do many of my clients. I did not respond to your question, because I have never run into that problem before. I didn’t have any idea it would ever become an issue.

Is this a one off program, or is it a weekly program that you have saved? All my saved stuff works precisely as a DVR, and I never have to look at commercials.

Ya, I didn't respond either because I didn't understand what was going on. I use youtubetv for NFL all the time and always skip commercials. I have missed a few 'group' recordings but I think it's because of the way the program was categorized or named. I really like youtubetv's recording function after using windows meda center and hdhomerun prime for years until cox cut cablecard in my area. What show are we talking about here?

Tom, how is your flood situation? Our Sheriff requested everyone to stay home today. Easy for me.

One off, weekly, does not matter. I don't know until recording is complete, if it ends up DVR or VOD.

My guess is it is content dependent and the agreements between the content provider and YouTube are such that if you record a show that is also available via VOD, you will be forced to watch the one with ads. Or something along those lines. You know what they say. Follow the money.

We are wet but OK. About 14” of rain in the last couple weeks.

Lots of flooding and trees down, as you have no doubt seen. The news is making it out to be apocalyptic and proof of climate change. Anyone who has lived in California for five years or more knows that the soil is not favorable to rain, sections of highway 1 along the coast have mudslides and close down nearly every year.
